Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Sr. Software Perception Engineer in Dallas, TX with hybrid options. The role focuses on designing and testing perception algorithms for sensor fusion, object detection, and autonomy on mobile off-road machines.

You will collaborate across teams, process robotic data, and contribute to scalable perception software. The ideal candidate has 3–5+ years in robotics perception, strong ML/CV knowledge, and proficiency in C++ and Python.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor and Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, or related field.
  • 3–5+ years building perception systems for robotics, autonomy, or ADAS.
  • 2+ years with machine learning for perception (tuning/training models).
  • Strong knowledge of computer vision, sensor fusion, and ML concepts applied to perception.
  • Proficient in C++ and Python for production-quality perception software.
  • Experience with ROS or similar autonomous software frameworks.
  • Hands-on experience with camera, lidar, and/or radar data for perception.
  • Experience with OpenCV and TensorFlow/PyTorch for perception models.
  • Experience with mobility perception for autonomy or operator assist systems.
  • Familiarity with lidar, radar, cameras and integration into autonomy stacks.
  • Knowledge of Agile software development life cycle for perception projects.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and test perception algorithms for sensor fusion, object detection, tracking and classification.
  • Develop high-quality perception software addressing customer needs and safety requirements.
  • Collaborate with data teams to analyze data from robotic platforms and optimize performance.
  • Annotate data and participate in iterative ML training cycles to meet performance goals.
  • Document architecture, designs, verification plans, and procedures clearly.
  • Utilize debugging and testing tools to ensure software quality and support V&V processes.
  • Develop and review autonomy perception software ensuring best practices and standards.
  • Contribute to integrating complex autonomy systems meeting requirements and timelines.
  • Enhance machine safety, productivity, and system robustness through integration work.
  • Resolve cross-subsystem issues spanning software, sensors, and data pipelines.
  • Work independently and with multidisciplinary teams using Agile methods.
