Job summary

KLA in Milpitas seeks a design engineer to drive end-to-end development of high-precision optomechanical systems. You will utilize Creo for 3D modeling, apply FEA and GD&T, and contribute to robust mechanism designs with strong communication and collaboration across teams.

The role involves leading design reviews, developing detailed models, assembling prototypes, testing integrations, and preparing documentation for manufacturing release.

Qualifications

  • Doctorate or 5+ years related work experience for Bachelor’s with years considered.
  • Experience in 3D solid modeling (Creo) and FEA/GD&T.
  • Background in mechanisms design and optical subsystems.

Responsibilities

  • Drive design from inception to release to manufacturing.
  • Generate models and drawings using Creo; conduct analyses (fluid, thermal, vibrational).
  • Lead design reviews and create assembly/test procedures.
  • Procure/assemble/test prototype material; support system integration and testing.
  • Generate documentation for release to manufacturing.

Group/Division

With over 40 years of semiconductor process control experience, chipmakers around the globe rely on KLA to ensure that their fabs ramp next-generation devices to volume production quickly and cost-effectively. Enabling the movement towards advanced chip design, KLA's Global Products Group (GPG), which is responsible for creating all of KLA's metrology and inspection products, is looking for the best and the brightest research scientist, software engineers, application development engineers, and senior product technology process engineers. The RAPID division is the world leading provider of reticle inspection solutions for the semiconductor industry. The company provides inspection solutions to both the mask shops and the semiconductor fabs to ensure that lithography yields are consistently high thus enabling cost-effective manufacturing.

Job Description/Preferred
Qualifications
  • Drive design from beginning to end including requirements specification, feasibility studies, conceptual and detailed design, build and release to manufacturing
  • Develop and track cost and schedule
  • Generate detailed models and drawings, using 3D solid modeling (Creo)
  • Conduct various analysis, such as fluid, thermal, and vibrational, through both hand calcs and FEA modeling
  • Understand and use Geometric Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Perform detailed tolerance stack-up analysis
  • Participate in and lead design reviews to obtain a peer-oriented design assessment throughout design process
  • Procure, assemble, and test prototype material
  • Support system integration and testing
  • Create assembly and test procedures
  • Generate documentation and support release and handoff to manufacturing.
Design challenges may include:
  • Low stress and high stability optomechanical & precision mechanism design
  • Design for functionality in ultra-clean environments, including in vacuum
  • Precision stage and actuation/adjustment design
Required Skills
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Minimum 3 years work experience in 3D solid modeling
  • Minimum 1 years work experience in FEA, GD&T
  • Strong background in the design of mechanisms.
  • Basic understanding of optical subsystems.
  • Familiar with manufacturing processes including machining, sheet metal fabrication, welding fabrication and castings.

Base Pay Range: $117,800.00 - $200,300.00 AnnuallyPrimary Location: USA-CA-Milpitas-KLA
