Under the supervision of the Operations Supervisor, responsible for operation and maintenance of water treatment, production, anddistributionoffacilities of the water system. Works safety and assures thatwatersystem meets compliance requirementsthroughaccuraterecord keeping, sampling, and required maintenance.
Duties include daily operation and maintenance of water treatment and distribution facilities. The operator performs chemical adjustments andadditionsasrequiredto ensure treatment meets regulated requirements. Monitors operation of the treatment plant and associated functions,maintainsaccuraterecord keeping, and takes water samples.
Responsible for responding to customer service orders, investigating customer leaks, repairing and locating service lines, locating main valves, maintaining fire hydrants, fire hydrant inventory and parts inventory, marking utility mark outs, obtaining bacteriological and other water quality samples, assisting with system flushing, and assisting with water main break repairs or replacement. Customer service duties include investigating customer complaints and inquiries, obtaining billing survey information, meter reading, andinitiatingand terminating customer water services.
Interactswith customers in the field when investigating customer inquiries and/or service leaks. Drives companyvehicle. Provides on-call and emergencydutyas needed.Maintainsrecord keeping. Special projects and assignments asrequired.
Basic knowledge of water system construction, distribution, or plumbing background is desirable.
Water Treatment Operator and Distribution Operator certification is desirable.
Requires ability to communicate verbally and in writing with internal and external customers as well as the ability to accurately read and record meter readings and other related information and perform basic mathematical calculations.
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent is required.
The position requires a valid California Class C Driver’s license with minimal moving violations.

Requires daily walking and/or climbing on varied terrain. May require bending, stooping, kneeling, and digging with equipment.

Water System Operator IrequireaT1 Water Treatment Certification and D1 Distribution Certification within one year of hire.
Candidates with skills and experience matching therolethat are not currentlyT1, D1certified may be considered for the position, if agreeable to therequirement.
