Job summary

UC San Diego is seeking a Clinical Support role on a plan. The incumbent will assist with basic patient care and activities of daily living, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, across a 26-bed inpatient unit including ICU stepdown, medicine, cardiac and heart failure services.

Responsibilities include patient transport, specimen and blood product handling, EKGs, and inventory management, with emphasis on teamwork, prioritization, and proactive communication to ensure quality patient

Qualifications

• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
• BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six months
• One year of recent acute care CNA experience, or currently enrolled in a registered nursing program
• Demonstrated ability to observe deviations from normal
• Must communicate effectively with staff and patients with empathy and kindness
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment

Responsibilities

• Provide basic patient care and assistance with activities of daily living
• Transport patients, specimens, and blood products; assist with EKGs
• Support inventory management and utilization of equipment
• Participate in performance improvement activities and chart audits
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and assist with unit administrative tasks
• Be available to work across multiple hours and locations as needed

DESCRIPTION

Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, supports the continuum of care by providing basic patient care and assistance with activities of daily living. Performs uncomplicated technical procedures. Participates in performance improvement activities, such as chart audits. Utilizes a variety of technical equipment and supplies.

Provides basic patient care support: patient transport, specimen and blood and blood products transport, EKG's and inventory management. This position requires initiative, the ability to prioritize demands and the ability to work in a team environment.

Participates in collaborative team environment, including: training and evaluation of peers; scheduling of work; and assisting the administrative functions of the unit. Explore and experience the passionate care of a diverse patient unit ranging from Intermediate Care down to Tele/Medsurg overflow.

Thornton's 2 East is a 26-bed inpatient unit which specializes in ICU stepdown, medicine, cardiac, and heart failure specialties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
• BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.
• One year of recent acute care CNA experience, or currently enrolled in a registered nursing program.
• Demonstrated ability to observe deviations from normal.
• Must be able to function in a fast-paced environment, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and consistently demonstrate empathy and kindness to all staff and patients.
• Must have excellent skills to communicate and influence effectively with all disciplines of staff including nurses, technologist, physicians, advanced practice providers, and patients both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to critically handle unexpected challenges and collaborate on solutions with a patient centered approach

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bilingual: Spanish/English.
• Previous acute care experience.
• IMU or PCU experience.
• Medical Terminology Certificate.
• PCIS, UCSD Paging & Scheduling Systems.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

• Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

• Must be able to work variable hours, shifts, locations (Hillcrest & La Jolla) based on business needs.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $69,363 - $69,363 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $33.22 - $33.22
