University of Maryland Medical System's Pediatric Critical Care Division is hiring a Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join the PICU team on a full-time basis with rotating scheduling. The unit is staffed 24/7 by a team of pediatric intensivists and specialized staff.

The successful candidate will have an MS in Acute Care NP or PA program, Maryland NP/PA certification, CPR, ACLS/BCLS, and at least three years in PICU, with strong communication and teamwork skills

Qualifications

  • Master of Science Degree with completion of an Acute Care NP or PA program.
  • Registered and currently for Maryland Board of Examiners of Nurses; NP in state.
  • CPR required; ACLS/BCLS as inpatient work requires.
  • Minimum of three years as a PICU NP.
  • Demonstrated professionalism through involvement in related activities.
  • Ability to provide care appropriate to pediatric populations and growth/development.
  • Strong verbal and written communication with families and staff.
  • Maintain hospital safety training and up-to-date immunizations.

We are hiring a Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our PICU team!

This is a full-time position with a rotating scheduling.

Our Pediatric Critical Care Division includes the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU), a 19-bed facility that provides state-of-the-art multidisciplinary critical care for young patients with life-threatening medical, cardiac and surgical conditions. The unit is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week by a team led by board-certified pediatric intensivists.

Our dedicated ICU team—including attending faculty, fellows, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, critical care nurses, critical care respiratory therapists, pharmacists, clinical nutritionists, social workers, case managers and child life specialists—are leaders in quality, safety, performance improvement and family-centered care. In addition, the University of Maryland Children's Hospital is continually recognized as a Best Children's Hospital for cardiology and heart surgery by U.S. News & World Report.

Qualifications
  • Master of Science Degree with completion of an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program. Registered and currently recorded with the Maryland Board of Examiners of Nurses and Certified as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Maryland. Certified in area of specialty. (DEA and CDS eligible).
  • CPR required
  • ACLS/BCLS as required for inpatient work.
  • A minimum of three (3) years as a PICU Nurse Practitioner is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote professionalism through involvement in professional organizations, teaching, research, publishing, and/or certification in area of specialty.
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population(s) served. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s requirements relative to his or her population-specific and age specific needs.
  • Highly effective verbal and written communication skills are required to interact with patient families, departmental units, medical and nursing staff on all essential matters. Demonstrated/documented effective interpersonal skills.
  • Maintains updated hospital safety and other mandatory training.
  • Updated immunizations as recommended per practice area.
Working Conditions
  • Weekend, shift work, holiday, on-call and overtime may be required.
  • There is potential for regular exposure to patients possessing infectious diseases in the work environment; requires observance of "Universal Precautions" by wearing gloves, goggles, and mask, is required.

  • Reports adverse events and near misses to appropriate management authority.
