Job summary

Cognizant is seeking a Sr NodeJS Developer to design, build, and support the API platform powering client digital experiences. You will be a technical authority across the full SDLC and collaborate with Enterprise teams using our API gateway and frameworks.

You'll develop Node.js-based applications and tooling, implement comprehensive unit tests, and contribute to CI/CD pipelines using GitLab, Terraform, and cloud services. Hybrid role based in Charlotte, NC.

Qualifications

• 3–5+ years of software development with Node.js/JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Experience writing comprehensive unit tests (Jest/Mocha/Chai).
• Public cloud experience (AWS); REST/microservices with versioning and auth.
• DevOps toolchains: GitLab CI/CD, Terraform, Git-based workflows.
• Strong software architecture, reliability, performance, observability.

Sr. NodeJS Developer

About the role

As a Sr NodeJS Developer, you will make an impact by designing, building, and supporting the API platform and tooling that powers our clients' digital experiences. You will be a valued member of the API Core Engineering team and work collaboratively with other development teams across the Enterprise who adopt and consume our API gateway and frameworks.

In this role, you will

• Serve as a technical authority across all phases of software development, including design, coding, testing, debugging, implementation, and support of the API platform and tooling
• Develop applications, frameworks, and tools for the API Core Engineering division to improve developer productivity and the SDLC process
• Build software applications using Node.js technologies and related programming languages such as JavaScript or TypeScript, along with comprehensive unit tests
• Develop CI/CD pipeline tools and frameworks using GitLab, Python, and shell scripts
• Partner with other development teams to support adoption of the API gateway and frameworks, resolving adoption and usage issues and answering consumer-team questions

What you need to have to be considered

• 3-5+ years of software development experience using Node.js, JavaScript, or TypeScript, including experience with Python and scripting languages
• Experience developing comprehensive unit tests using Jest, Mocha, Chai, or an equivalent testing framework
• Hands-on experience building and operating services on public cloud (AWS strongly preferred), including designing and developing REST APIs or microservices with versioning, authentication/authorization, and documentation
• Proven experience with DevOps toolchains, including GitLab (CI/CD), Terraform (IaC), Git-based workflows, and source version control such as Git
• Strong understanding of software architecture, reliability, performance, and observability (logging, metrics, tracing), paired with a strategic, hands‑on problem‑solving mindset

These will help you stand out

• Experience developing APIs with API Gateway support
• Experience working with Platform teams
• Strong cloud experience, with AWS certifications considered a significant plus
