Job summary

TECHEAD is seeking a Sr Network Engineer for an on-site, contract-to-hire role at Hanscom AFB, MA. You will manage, maintain, and secure a high-performance Gigabit Ethernet network, focusing on design, configuration, and Tier 3 support with DoD, AF, and DISA standards.

Ideal candidates have Cisco/Juniper routing/switching expertise, IPAM/DHCP/DNS/Syslog, network monitoring (SolarWinds Orion, Cisco ISE), and a Security+ certification. CCNA is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or related field (4 extra years of experience can substitute for the degree).
• 3+ years of progressive hands-on experience in network engineering/administration.
• Active Secret security clearance is a plus.
• CompTIA Security+ certification.
• Hands-on experience configuring Cisco/Juniper routers and switches; Layer 2/3 protocols; network monitoring tools.

Responsibilities

• Network design, installation, configuration, and troubleshooting with minimal supervision.
• Provide Tier 3 operational support; diagnose data troubles and open/resolve trouble tickets.
• Participate in network modernization and integration of new networks.
• Maintain DoD/AF/DISA compliance; keep topology maps and documentation up to date.
• Support 24/7 operations and weekend work as required.

Job Description:

Responsible for working on a team to manage, maintain, and secure a high-performance, converged Gigabit Ethernet network infrastructure, ensuring reliable service delivery across operations.

This role focuses on network design, configuration, and Tier 3 operational support with minimal supervision. Operating in alignment with DoD, Air Force, and DISA standards, the position exercises technical leadership to drive network modernization, optimize performance, and manage ongoing upgrade projects across routers, switches, and network management tools.

Key Responsibilities

• Network Design & Engineering: Design, install, configure, and troubleshoot network infrastructure with minimal supervision. Manage daily operational tasks and ongoing upgrade projects for routers, switches, and network management tools.
• Operations & Troubleshooting: Provide day-to-day operational support, including network debugging, diagnosing data troubles, opening trouble tickets, and resolving customer support cases through Tier 3 support.
• Network Modernization: Participate in the design and integration of new networks into the existing architecture, leveraging the latest networking technologies.
• Compliance & Documentation: Assist in securing network systems to meet all applicable DoD, AF, and DISA compliance standards. Maintain classified and unclassified network topology maps (e.g., Visio) and ensure detailed record-keeping for military processes.
• Maintenance & Support: Participate in system maintenance, optimization, and performance activities. Support emergency operations on a 24/7 as-needed basis and remain flexible for weekend work as required.

Position Qualifications

• Education: Bachelors degree in Information Technology or an equivalent technical field (4 additional years of directly related experience may substitute for the degree).
• Experience: 3+ years of progressive hands‑on experience in a dedicated network engineering or administration role.
• Clearance: Active Secret security clearance is a plus
• Certifications: CompTIA Security+ certification.
• Technical Systems: Hands‑on experience configuring Cisco/Juniper routers and switches, Layer 2 & Layer 3 protocols in a VoIP environment, IPAM/DHCP/DNS/Syslog, and network monitoring platforms (e.g., SolarWinds Orion NPM/NCM, Cisco ISE).

Preferred Qualifications

• Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification.
