Job summary

Amazon Web Services seeks an AWS Specialist Solutions Architect focused on Aurora MySQL to help customers design, migrate, optimize, and operate MySQL workloads on Aurora and RDS. You will collaborate with customer engineers and leadership to deliver well-architected production systems at scale and share insights with AWS product teams and communities.

You will represent the customer voice, contribute to blogs and reference architectures, and participate in AWS events to spread best practices

AWS Specialist Solutions Architects (SSAs) are technologists with deep domain expertise who can address advanced technical concepts and feature designs. As part of the AWS Worldwide Specialist Organization (WWSO), SSAs work with customers to solve complex challenges that require expert knowledge. They design scalable, flexible, and resilient technical architectures to address those challenges.

We are looking for a MySQL expert to be our next SSA specializing in Aurora MySQL to help customers architect, migrate, optimize, and operate MySQL workloads on Amazon Aurora and Amazon RDS. You will work directly with customer engineers and technology leaders to design well-architected production systems for demanding workloads. You will represent the voice of the customer, sharing feedback with the Aurora service team to influence feature development and the product roadmap. You will provide advanced technical expertise to domain-aligned GTM teams, helping them address customers' most complex and critical business challenges. You will share best practices through blogs, whitepapers, reference architectures, and speaking engagements at AWS Summits, AWS re:Invent, and other events. You will also help build and support an internal AWS community of technical subject matter experts around the world.

Basic Qualifications

• 5+ years of IT development or implementation/consulting in the software or Internet industries experience
• Experience with any programming language such as Python, Java, C++
• 5+ years of experience in a technology domain such as software development, cloud, systems engineering, infrastructure, or data and analytics.
• Hands-on experience with Aurora MySQL or RDS for MySQL.
• Experience leading migrations to Aurora as the technical owner.
• Experience with Aurora features such as its distributed storage architecture, fast database cloning, Global Database, CloudWatch Database Insights, and Blue/Green Deployments.
• Experience architecting or operating MySQL at scale, including multi-terabyte databases, high connection counts, and cross-Region replication.

Preferred Qualifications

• 5+ years designing, operating, or engineering production MySQL systems at scale.
• Deep knowledge of MySQL and InnoDB internals, including transactions and locking, MVCC, undo logs and purge behavior, the query optimizer, indexing, and buffer pool management.
• Experience with MySQL replication, including binary logs, GTIDs, asynchronous or semi synchronous replication, replication lag, and failover.
• Experience with partitioning, connection management, major-version upgrades, and MySQL plugins and storage engines.
• Experience planning and executing database migrations, including schema conversion, data movement, cutover, rollback planning, and performance validation

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
