Job summary

CRH is seeking a Mine Engineer/Geologist to provide technical support for surveying, drilling and blasting, exploration, reserve evaluation, and mine design for permitting and planning purposes.

You will conduct drone and traditional surveys, prepare phased mine plans, and utilize CAD, AggFlow, Talpac, Haulsim, and drone software to support safe, cost-effective operations. Travel and some night/weekend work are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mine Engineering, Geology, or equivalent.
  • Three years related experience preferred.
  • Proficient with Windows, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct inventory surveys using drone and traditional surveying methods.
  • Survey boundaries, limits, and topography for mine planning and property management.
  • Prepare phased short, medium, and long term mine plans for operations management.
  • Use mine planning software for overburden plans, reserve estimation, exploration, and documentation to meet corporate requirements.
  • Promote and utilize technology, engineering, and factors affecting costs, safety, and sustainability of mining.
  • Serve on subcommittees to improve standards across CRH.

Position Overview

Responsible for providing technical support to operations management with respect to surveying, drilling and blasting, exploration, reserve evaluation, inventory management, and mine design for permitting and mine planning purposes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct inventory surveys using drone and traditional surveying methods.
  • Survey various boundaries, limits, and topography for mine planning and property management.
  • Prepare phased short, medium, and long term mine plans for operations management.
  • Use mine planning software for various engineering projects such as overburden stripping plans, reserve estimation, exploration projects, and documentation to meet corporate requirements.
  • Promote and utilize technology, engineering, and other factors that could affect the costs, safety, and sustainability impacts of surface or underground mining.
  • Serve on subcommittees consisting of employees of other CRH companies and fulfill obligations for various projects aimed at improving standards across CRH.

  • Ability to obtain Part 107 Drone License Certification.
  • Willing to travel and work away from home regularly.
  • Willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Mine Engineering, Geology, or equivalent from a four‑year college or technical school; three years related experience preferred. Experience with land surveying instruments, CAD, mine planning software preferred. Proficient with Windows, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages and draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Physical Requirements

Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands; reach; talk or hear. Frequently required to climb or balance. Occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must regularly lift and/or move more than 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required: distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception.
