Job summary

WestRock Company is seeking a Maintenance Manager for the Jacksonville, FL area. The role leads safety-focused maintenance and reliability programs for a pulp and paper environment, coordinating budget planning and capital projects with senior leadership.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years in heavy industrial settings, strong project management skills, and proven ability to manage diverse teams including technicians and engineers.

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Engineering or related discipline.
  • 10+ years in heavy industrial or process industries; pulp & paper experience preferred.
  • Project management experience is a plus.
  • Experience communicating with technical specialists, management, supervision, and technicians.
  • Knowledge of safety programs and trainings.
  • Construction experience managing capital projects and leading project teams; working knowledge of power, pulp, and paper mill processes.
  • Proficiency in personal computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support safety and environmental compliance.
  • Manage planning, coordination, and execution of all facility maintenance and reliability activities to optimize equipment availability, safety, and environmental performance.
  • Coordinate with the Mill Leadership Team to prepare and administer the facility maintenance budget; submit recommendations, monitor expenditures, prepare cost estimates, and justify equipment needs.
  • Provide technical direction to project team members and act as an operational resource by offering technical expertise.
  • Coordinate outside resources for operational improvements.
  • Ensure all mill activities comply with mill, company, state, and federal policies regarding employee safety and work execution.
  • Create a culture of critical thinking and troubleshooting to foster continuous improvement in maintenance functions and overall mill operations.
  • Oversee facility maintenance reliability programs and develop/plans for long‑term improvements.
  • Direct preventative maintenance programs for electrical, instrumentation, automation, controls, and mechanical systems.
  • Plan strategic long‑term maintenance including infrastructure monitoring and improvements.
  • Stay current on new trends and developments in mill maintenance, incorporating new procedures and training as appropriate.
  • Implement maintenance best practices and processes, including effective planning and scheduling with KPI tracking, technician precision training, and reliability efforts such as lubrication, vibration, and root cause analysis.
  • Develop succession planning within the maintenance department and career development for personnel.
  • Ensure efficient utilization of mill workforce and contractors, overseeing long‑term contract agreements.
  • Maintain a culture of professionalism, customer satisfaction, employee engagement, respect, and trust.
  • Plan and coordinate routine and annual maintenance shutdowns.
  • Collaborate with the Engineering Manager to develop, plan, and implement capital projects, and assist in managing the capital budget.
