Primary Function of Position

The Future Forward group is seeking a Sr. Mechanical Engineer to design and construct manufacturing equipment supporting the production of Intuitive’s robotic systems, instruments and accessories. This role covers equipment development from prototype through launch, working with senior equipment staff, manufacturing, software engineering, and other departments. Projects range from custom manual fixtures to semi‑automated electro‑mechanical systems, integrating workholding, sensing, motion, and vision control. The ideal candidate drives all aspects of an equipment project—scheduling, documentation, prototyping, build coordination, and validation—with ownership and accountability.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and build proprietary manufacturing and test equipment from concept to full implementation.
  • Create mechanical assemblies for fixturing and automation equipment, ranging from simple to complex.
  • Establish specifications, assembly instructions, troubleshooting guides, and maintenance/calibration procedures.
  • Ensure designs meet functional, safety, ergonomic, documentation, and validation requirements.
  • Manage project plans including schedules, budgets, and stakeholder updates.
  • Conduct design reviews throughout equipment development.
  • Create and execute protocol documentation for IQOQPQ and DQ validations.
  • Interface with technical and counterpart teams to sustain manufacturing equipment for ongoing production and expansion.
  • Establish and manage external resources (contractors, system integrators, vendors).
  • Support quality and internal/external audits.
  • Support other equipment‑related operations and duties as required.
Required Skills and Experience
  • Minimum 6 years of manufacturing equipment design experience.
  • Self‑motivated and collaborative within a team environment.
  • Hands‑on experience developing mechanical/mechatronics hardware with motion, pneumatics, vision, sensors, PLCs, electronics, and controls.
  • Proficient at troubleshooting and repairing manufacturing equipment.
  • Strong understanding of tolerance analysis and statistical methods.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, with strong interpersonal skills.
Required Education and Training

Minimum BS in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or related fields.

Preferred Skills and Experience
  • MSME (or equivalent) with minimum 6 years of experience.
  • Experience developing and supporting manufacturing equipment with robotic or catheter emphasis.
  • Experience in a medical device or similarly regulated environment.
  • Hands‑on experience establishing equipment specifications, validation protocols and reports, BOMs, and work instructions.
  • Experience with change control (ECOs) and enterprise software such as Agile document control, Confluence, Jira, Polarion, Windchill, etc.
  • Structured problem‑solving and root‑cause analysis capability.
