Job Description
The Hardware Engineering, Air Launched Effectors Department is seeking Mechanical Engineers to support full program life cycle, early development, production support, and legacy sustainment activities across the Air Launched Effectors products and subsystems in Tucson, AZ.
Responsibilities
- Own and execute technical tasks, serving as prime technical contact for solutions to complex problems related to the design, manufacture, integration, and production sustainment of mechanical sub‑systems.
- Communicate with cross‑disciplined engineering team members and suppliers to analyze, model, and document the Design Technical Data Package (TDP) and ensure compliance with requirements.
- Act as a mentor to junior engineers, providing technical guidance and fostering professional growth.
- Work autonomously as the responsible engineer for major hardware subsystems; lead small teams of 4‑6 junior engineers and collaborate across functions such as supply chain, operations, quality, systems, analysis, and electrical.
- Perform mechanical design, development, and documentation of components, sub‑assemblies, and major end items for defense system equipment in accordance with system requirements.
- Collaborate with Raytheon factories and suppliers on new product integration and manufacturing process improvements.
- Perform and review tolerance analyses to ensure form, fit, and function of designs.
- Improve new and existing designs using DFMA and Design for Producibility principles.
- Support production of mechanical sub‑systems at internal factories and suppliers, including first hardware builds, first‑article inspections, and root‑cause investigations of production‑related issues.
- Review manufacturing process instructions and support material review board dispositions.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in an engineering discipline with a minimum of 3 years of experience.
- Proficiency in ANSI/ASME Y14.5 GD&T and tolerance analysis.
- Experience with CREO (Pro/Engineering) or similar 3‑D solid modeling software.
- Advanced degree in Engineering preferred.
- Leadership experience managing small teams of 4‑6 people.
- Supplier interaction and supplier management experience.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to provide solutions to moderate‑scope technical problems.
- Experience with mechanical sub‑systems packaging, materials, thermal, structural analysis, energetics principles, control systems, interconnect, airframe, or large assembly development.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Experience with PTC Windchill Product Data Management or equivalent configuration/data management software.
- Ability to travel to government and supplier facilities as required.
- U.S. citizenship required; active and transferable U.S. security clearance (Secret) required prior to start date.
