Ingersoll Rand in Ocala, FL seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer to drive economical, high-quality mechanical designs for non-standard customer orders from concept through manufacturing, field installation and operation. The role also provides cost estimates for pricing strategy on complex quotes.

The candidate will lead other engineers, visit customer sites as needed, and ensure compliance with ASME codes while leveraging CAD tools, GD&T, and ERP data for accurate BOMs and cost data.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant field is required.
  • 5+ years related experience.
  • Must be familiar with ASME codes and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Develop cost-effective mechanical designs according to customer specifications for desiccant air dryers, filters, and related equipment.
  • Thorough knowledge of drafting, machine design, vibrations, strength of materials, metallurgy, ASME codes, manufacturing procedures, GD&T, and strong communication skills for interfacing with manufacturing, customers and Sales Representatives.
  • Knowledge of process conditions and applications to properly engineer quality equipment.
  • Proficient with computer applications such as Microsoft Office, Outlook, Project, AutoCAD, Inventor and ASME code calculation software for data related to orders, inventory, BOMs, cost, code compliance and reports.
  • Proficiency in cost estimating and understanding of various products; strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Provide guidance to Inside Sales Engineers, Application Engineers and Drafters on mechanical design and cost.
  • Provide technical support for Sales Representatives and customers, possibly traveling to customer sites.
  • Support Warranty Service by checking designs, analyzing problems and implementing solutions; may involve travel to installations.
  • Assist Standards engineering with related calculations for day-to-day and long-term projects.
  • Lead and train Engineering staff in design standards and scheduling to deliver high-quality results on time.
  • Develop designs and concepts using 3D modeling software and create BOMs in ERP systems such as SAP.
  • Knowledge of ASME pressure vessel codes is a plus.

Job Overview:

This position is directly responsible for determining and directing the most economical, high-quality mechanical design for non-standard customer orders from concept to manufacturing, field installation and operation. This position is also responsible for providing cost estimates as a basis for determining pricing strategy for quotes that cannot be done by the Applications Engineering group. This position must also lead other Engineering personnel in the design of more complex orders and quotes. This individual will also be required, as needed, to visit customers in order to negotiate the technical aspects of a project or warranty related issues.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop cost-effective mechanical designs according to customer specifications using standard procedures and experience for desiccant air dryers, filters, and other related equipment.
  • This position requires a thorough knowledge of drafting, machine design, vibrations, strength of materials, metallurgy, ASME codes, manufacturing procedures, a general knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing and strong interpersonal skills for communicating thoughts and ideas to manufacturing, customers and Sales Representatives.
  • A thorough knowledge of process conditions and applications is necessary to properly engineer quality equipment.
  • A working knowledge of computer applications such as Microsoft Office, Outlook, Project, AutoCAD, Inventor and ASME code calculation software including data related to Sales Orders, inventory, items, BOMs, cost, code compliance and various reports is necessary.
  • Proficiency in cost estimating. Understanding of various products. Strong communication and organizational skills are necessary.
  • Provide guidance to Inside Sales Engineers, Application Engineers and Drafters on mechanical design and cost.
  • Provide technical support for Sales Representatives and customers on topics related to product lines. This may include travelling to customer sites to provide this support.
  • Provide support for Warranty Service by checking designs, analyzing customer problems and implementing engineering solutions. May include travelling to installation sites to solve customer service issues.
  • Assist Standards engineering by performing related engineering calculations for day-to-day activities and long-term projects.
  • Lead and instruct other Engineering personnel in design standards and project scheduling to complete high-quality deliverables in the time frames required to support the customer and business commitments.
  • Develop designs & concepts using 3D modeling software and create BOMs in ERP system such as SAP.
  • Knowledge of ASME pressure vessel codes a plus.
