Careers that change lives start here. Medtronic is a global leader in healthcare technology with a Mission to alleviate pain, restore health, and extend life. Our 95,000 employees work across more than 150 countries to put patients first — developing innovative medical technologies that improve the lives of 72+ million patients each year. Your unique talents will help shape the future of healthcare while building a career grounded in purpose, growth, and impact.

A Day in the Life

The Affera Mapping and Ablation System is an innovative medical technology designed to treat patients with cardiac arrhythmias. The system involves advanced mapping techniques to create detailed images of the heart's electrical activity, helping physicians identify abnormal areas causing arrhythmias. Once identified, the Affera Ablation System delivers targeted energy to disrupt these abnormal signals, restoring normal heart rhythm.

This position follows Medtronic’s minimum four-day-per-week onsite work model.

As a Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer in CAS Research & Technology (R&T), you will support the initial design of electrophysiology devices for use with the Affera system. This is a high impact role, defining the design direction for future catheter and sheath products. We are looking for passionate individuals who are interested in making a difference in a dynamic work environment.

The ideal candidate will be a hands-on, self-starter looking to improve the lives of others through excellence in product design. Command of theoretical and practical engineering fundamental principles and an interest to learn about the field of cardiac electrophysiology are required.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Conceptualize, prototype, design, and develop mechanical system elements of cardiac electrophysiology catheter and other Class II and III devices for high volume assembly
  • Develop manufacturing and assembly processes for complex catheter assemblies containing miniature, precision electromechanical components.
  • Conceptualize, design, and implement test methods and fixtures for characterization or validation
  • Support device manufacturing efforts by developing improved processes and tooling; troubleshoot manufacturing and assembly issues. Work with Quality team members to develop recovery plans and resolve problems.
  • Participate in design reviews and assist with Design and Process Failure Mode and Effects Analyses (FMEA).
  • Identify and work closely with component manufacturers to ensure timely and accurate component delivery.
  • Attend and participate in pre-clinical in‑vivo system evaluations; interact with clinicians and industry professionals to evaluate design concepts.
  • Be part of laboratory demonstrations for clinicians and internal stakeholders.
  • Work cross‑functionally with electronics hardware and software engineers to integrate electrical components and systems with the mechanical design.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience OR Master's degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience OR PhD with 0 years relevant experience.
  • Strong design experience of mechanical products
  • Excellent working knowledge of 3D CAD tools (SolidWorks preferred).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree focus in Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience in medical device design a plus.
  • Mechanical aptitude and willingness to work in a laboratory environment.
  • Highly motivated and thrives in an environment with minimal direction.
  • Team‑oriented spirit and ability to work cross‑functionally across disciplines and groups.
  • Highly organized; strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.
