Job summary

Amgen SA is seeking a Sr. Manufacturing Process Mechanic in Puerto Rico. You will support the performance and reliability of manufacturing equipment to deliver high-quality products to patients.

A background in mechanical maintenance and familiarity with GMPs are essential for success in this role. Responsibilities include diagnosing issues, collaborating with engineers, documenting activities, and guiding junior staff.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s + 6 months Mechanical work or military experience
  • Or High school/GED + 2 years Mechanical work or military experience
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred
  • Availability for non-standard shifts
  • Good documentation skills

Responsibilities

  • Identify, diagnose, and resolve mechanical issues on manufacturing lines.
  • Collaborate with engineers to implement maintenance strategies.
  • Follow GMPs and safety guidelines in all tasks.
  • Maintain maintenance records in written and digital formats.
  • Share knowledge and mentor junior mechanics when needed.
  • Track line performance and support equipment upgrades.
  • Coordinate with vendors during installations and validations.
  • Provide timely line status updates during shift changes.
  • Create and prioritize work orders aligned with production.

Sr. Manufacturing Process Mechanic

What you will do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role, you will support the performance and reliability of manufacturing equipment that helps deliver high-quality products to patients who need them most.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Proactively identify, diagnose, and resolve mechanical and automated issues on manufacturing lines using SOPs, technical manuals, and collaboration with engineers.

  • Partner with engineers to implement preventative maintenance strategies and contribute to equipment upgrades and process improvements.

  • Consistently follow and enforce current Good Manufacturing Practices, Standard Operating Procedures, and safety guidelines to maintain a compliant and safe work environment.

  • Maintain precise and timely documentation of maintenance activities, validations, and repairs in both written and digital formats (e.g., EBR, MAXIMO).

  • Act as a technical resource by sharing expertise, training junior mechanics, and fostering a collaborative learning environment.

  • Track key performance indicators (e.g., OEE), analyze data trends, and apply root cause analysis (e.g., 5 Whys) to drive operational excellence.

  • Collaborate with engineers, automation teams, and equipment vendors during installations, validations, and troubleshooting efforts.

  • Provide detailed line status updates during shift changeovers and ensure seamless handoffs of ongoing issues or maintenance tasks.

  • Create, review, and prioritize work orders using systems like MAXIMO and Smartsheet, aligning with production schedules and business impact.

  • Take ownership of assigned equipment, follow through on commitments, and proactively seek clarity or support when needed to ensure task completion.

What we expect of you

Basic Qualifications:

Associate’s + 6 months Mechanical work or military experience

Or

High school/GED + 2 years Mechanical work or military experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Educational background in Electronic Engineering Technology, Electric Technology, Mechanic Engineering Technology, Industrial Mechanics

  • Drug Product Experience

  • Experience in Pharmaceutical, Medical Device and/or Biotech Manufacturing environment

  • Available to work in Non-Standard Shifts

  • Previous experience as Mechanic Operator

  • Knowledgeable of the following technical areas: Packaging or Process Equipment/System Maintenance Technician

  • Negotiating skills

  • Overall understanding of mechanical systems

  • Organizational skills and an ability to perform assignments with a high degree of attention to detail

  • Good documentation skills.

  • Good communication skills in both: written and oral

  • Bilingual: be able to speak, read and write in both Spanish and English
