Job summary

General Motors (GM) is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to analyze and implement product and machinery designs for efficient manufacturing. You will propose processes, design, develop and improve manufacturing methods, and support prototype builds while collaborating with product engineering to refine designs for manufacturability.

You will lead large projects for transmission and drive unit assembly equipment and coordinate with outside vendors.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering required.
  • Minimum 5 years in manufacturing/process engineering or related roles.
  • Experience with design for manufacturability and process control.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and implement product and machinery designs for best manufacturing methods.
  • Propose and evaluate equipment processes for assigned area.
  • Design, develop and improve manufacturing processes.
  • Support prototype builds and develop processes, tooling, and equipment.
  • Lead projects for transmission/drive unit assembly equipment and plant launches.
  • Provide technical direction and coordinate outside vendors; apply lessons learned.

Job DescriptionDUTIES: Analyze and implement product and machinery designs for the best method for manufacturing process. Propose and evaluate the processes for equipment in the assigned area. Design, develop, and improve manufacturing processes. Participate in project management for large projects for Transmission and Drive unit Assembly Equipment. Support prototype builds through development of the processes, tooling, and equipment all while working with product engineering to refine designs for manufacturing. Implement the production manufacturing process for new products. Design, construction, integration, plant installation, successful launch, and continuous improvement of equipment and tools required in plants to produce high quality parts. Providing technical direction to and oversight of outside vendor sources. Participate in the development and testing of advanced process technology. Provide technical direction to and coordination of less experienced process engineers. Investigate warranty data and implement corrective actions to prevent repeat defects. Apply lessons learned to future product and process designs. Hybrid Work Policy – 3 days In-Office, 2 Days Remote – Must be able to report to local office. ~25% domestic travelREQUIREMENTS : Bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field of study and Five (5) years of experience as a Manufacturing Engineer, Maintenance Group Leader, Test Engineer, or related role. Five (5) years of experience with the following: Process engineering; Plant floor and design for manufacturability; Transmission and Drive Unit Bill of Equipment, Bill of Process, Bill of Sediment Elimination, and Bill of Operations; Technical problem solving and root cause analysis; Failure mode and effects analysis and Control plan; Engineering technical skills including Leak test, torque (fastening), press operations, error proofing methods, process modeling; Design for safety, risk assessments; and Simulation, throughput analysis, theory of constraints, workload modeling.
