Sr. Manager Manufacturing - AR5 Solution Prep
What you will do

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will lead the Solution Preparation organization within AR5 — a critical and highly integrated part of Amgen’s large-scale biomanufacturing network. This team plays an essential role in the success of the plant by supplying high-quality media to Cell Culture and buffers to Purification, enabling the reliable and consistent manufacture of Amgen’s biologic medicines. The Senior Manager oversees a team of more than 50 staff working across four shifts, each led by a Front‑Line Manager, ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient 24/7 operations. As a member of the AR5 Manufacturing Leadership Team, this leader shapes operational performance, drives site‑wide alignment, and plays a key role in transforming how we manufacture today to deliver on the processes of tomorrow.

Key Responsibilities
  • Safety and Quality Leadership Champion Amgen’s core commitment to safety and product quality by fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. Ensure manufacturing execution consistently meets GMP, EHS, and regulatory expectations, with proactive risk identification and mitigation. Strengthen and build upon an already strong safety and quality culture, reinforcing standards through daily leadership presence on the floor (Gemba).
  • Operational Leadership Lead the Solution Preparation organization to achieve production goals across a 24/7 operation. Provide oversight and direction to Front‑Line Managers, ensuring alignment with AR5’s Floor Operating Principles and site objectives. Coordinate cross‑functional support to troubleshoot and resolve operational challenges, including participation in the AR5/AR30 on‑call leadership rotation.
  • Strategic and Continuous Improvement Influence site and network‑level manufacturing strategy, driving operational excellence, digital literacy, and adoption of modern manufacturing processes. Lead initiatives to reduce deviations, enhance process reliability, and improve right‑first‑time performance. Champion digital and data‑driven solutions to improve decision‑making, operational transparency, and real‑time performance oversight.
  • Innovation and Process Enhancement Drive process transformation efforts that enhance efficiency and eliminate non‑value‑added activities. Lead operational readiness for process improvements, including innovative changeover, scheduling, and resource deployment solutions. Support I‑530 operations, capacity utilization, and scalability across both AR5 and AR30.
  • Talent Development Mentor and grow Front‑Line Managers and staff, fostering engagement, belonging, and a mentality of continuous learning. Reinforce Amgen’s Agile Workforce model and OnePlant philosophy by enabling cross‑training and dynamic resource allocation across AR5 and AR30. Build an impactful, adaptable organization prepared to meet the evolving demands of a future‑ready manufacturing network.
  • Capacity Planning and Network Collaboration Lead resource planning and capacity modeling to align with Amgen’s long‑range manufacturing plan. Partner closely with Quality, Process Development, Engineering, Safety, Supply Chain, and Technology to ensure integrated, reliable operations. Collaborate across the global Amgen manufacturing network to share best practices, align strategic priorities, and elevate network performance.
