Universal Orlando is seeking a seasoned engineer to manage ride systems, budgets, and schedules, ensuring safety and quality across design, production, installation, and testing. You will lead cross-functional teams and coordinate vendor activities to deliver complex attractions on time and within spec.

The role requires a strong technical background in ride systems, extensive experience in theme parks, and proven project/contract management capabilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical field required; advanced degree preferred.
  • 5+ years in ride systems or complex integrated systems.
  • 7+ years in theme park technical/engineering roles.
  • Experience with project and contract management is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure ride equipment safety per Universal specs and standards.
  • Provide technical guidance and vendor management for design and installation.
  • Oversee technical interactions with project team, vendors, and sub-contractors for ride systems.
  • Create scope of work and award contracts based on requirements.
  • Advise on status and engineering quality of ride systems.
  • Participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities.

Job Summary

Provides technical management, inclusive of budget and schedule, for an attraction or attractions. Responsible for the successful specification, bid/award, design, production, installation, and acceptance testing of Ride and/or Show systems, to include Audio, Special Effects, Projection, Lighting, Set/Scenic, Props, Show Action Equipment, Animated Figures, Ride Mechanical Systems, Ride Control Systems. Role may have multiple direct reports who manage multiple aspects of an attraction.

Major Responsibilities
  • Ensures all Ride equipment maintains the highest level of safety in accordance with Universal Specifications, accepted manufacturing practices and applicable standards.
  • Provides technical guidance and vendor management of the design, fabrication and day-to-day detailed installation, test, and adjust activities in the field. Vendor management includes participation in all aspects of both technical and project / contract management as it applies to vendor contracts, directives, and change orders.
  • Oversees all technical interaction with other project team members, vendors, sub-contractors, and other relevant 3rd parties involved with Ride systems with a focus on Mechanical systems. Develops an open working relationship with the facility & construction team and vendors to ensure a clear line of communication regarding installation, test, and adjust activities. Builds strong team cohesion and motivation within the attraction technical team.
  • Creates scope of work documentation and awards contracts to vendors based on quantitative requirements derived from interpreting creative intent and employing Universal Specifications. Leads enforcement of Ride technical and safety principles to provide a quality product and necessary deliverables.
  • Advises, coordinates, and is accountable for the status and engineering quality of Ride systems, including areas of risk or potential future risks.
  • Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UDX policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education

Bachelor's Degree in applicable technical field required (examples include, but are not limited to, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechatronics) or equivalent demonstrated skill and experience; Advanced Degree preferred.

Experience

5+ Years: Technical experience with ride systems or other complex integrated systems required. Any experience in Theme Park development, construction, ride systems design or fabrication is preferred.

7+ years' experience in direct theme park-specific technical/engineering roles supporting ride systems or other complex integrated systems required (examples include, but are not limited to (integrated mechanical systems, integrated electrical systems, integrated technical show systems) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
