Job description

It started with a simple idea: what if surgery could be less invasive and recovery less painful? Nearly 30 years later, that question still fuels everything we do at Intuitive. As a global leader in robotic-assisted surgery and minimally invasive care, our technologies—like the da Vinci surgical system and Ion—have transformed how care is delivered for millions of patients worldwide.

We’re a team of engineers, clinicians, and innovators united by one purpose: to make surgery smarter, safer, and more human. Every day, our work helps care teams perform with greater precision and patients recover faster, improving outcomes around the world.

The problems we solve demand creativity, rigor, and collaboration. The work is challenging, but deeply meaningful—because every improvement we make has the potential to change a life.

If you’re ready to contribute to something bigger than yourself and help transform the future of healthcare, you’ll find your purpose here.

Primary Function of Position:

The Sr. Manager, Financial Risk & Compliance will play a critical role in managing organizational risk, establishing policies and executing monitoring procedures, advising on the design of effective controls, collaborating with business teams to mitigate risks and promote best practices, and contributing to the overall success of the Sarbanes‑Oxley (SOX) program to maintain the organization’s financial integrity.

Roles and Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting Risk Management
  • Develop, implement, and oversee risk management strategies, policies, and procedures related to financial reporting and operational processes.
  • Lead risk assessments to identify emerging financial reporting risks resulting from business growth, process changes, system implementations, acquisitions, organizational changes, and other evolving business activities.
  • Assess risks associated with emerging technologies, automation, and AI‑enabled solutions that may impact financial reporting processes and controls.
  • Prepare and present recommendations to senior leadership regarding the financial reporting and compliance implications of new applications, technologies, and system implementations.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to business and finance teams by providing guidance on governance, risk management, system implementations, and process transformation initiatives.
SOX Program and Internal Controls
  • Oversee the design and enhancement of internal controls by partnering with process owners to ensure controls are effective, efficient, scalable, and aligned with financial reporting objectives.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify, standardize, and automate controls and compliance activities while maintaining an effective control environment.
  • Develop and monitor SOX and financial reporting control program metrics, providing insights and recommendations to improve program effectiveness, efficiency, and quality.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance the quality, consistency, and scalability of the Company's control environment and compliance programs.
Audit Coordination and Remediation
  • Coordinate directly with Internal Audit and external auditors to support walkthroughs, testing, deficiency evaluations, and remediation activities.
  • Lead the tracking and coordination of control enhancements and remediation efforts across process owners, ensuring timely implementation and sustainable outcomes.
  • Ensure the completeness, accuracy, and quality of audit and control documentation, including support for remediation efforts and management responses.
Governance, Training, and Program Enablement
  • Support governance activities related to the SOX program, including preparation of committee materials, executive reporting, action item tracking, and monitoring of key program initiatives.
  • Develop and deliver training, workshops, and educational programs to strengthen awareness of financial reporting risks, controls, and compliance responsibilities across the organization.
Required Skills and Experience:
  • 8+ years of relevant experience with strong accounting and financial reporting expertise, including U.S. GAAP, as well as in-depth knowledge of the COSO Framework, PCAOB Auditing Standards, SOX 404 risk and control requirements, and relevant industry regulations and best practices.
  • Exceptional root cause analysis skills to identify underlying factors contributing to risk and compliance issues, investigate complex issues, and propose effective solutions.
  • Excellent leadership skills with proven ability to influence and motivate others to drive results.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present complex topics in a clear and concise manner to audiences at various levels of the business.
  • Strong project management skills to ensure effective prioritization and timely execution to deliver the results.
  • Experience operating in SAP or similar ERP system, as well as the business and operational processes affecting financial reporting.
  • Strategic mindset to navigate organizational change to assess risks and make sound decisions with the growth and complexity of the organization.
  • This role requires working onsite in our Sunnyvale, CA office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday every week.
Required Education and Training:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or equivalent field required.
  • CPA or equivalent certification.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
