Job summary

BD, a global medical technology leader, seeks a Sr. Manager, Environmental Health & Safety to lead the EHS team at the Columbus West site. You will shape the site’s EHS program, drive safety initiatives, and ensure compliance with all applicable laws and BD policies.

The role requires strong technical expertise in LOTO, Machine Guarding, Powered Industrial Trucks, Electrical Safety and Fall Protection, and experience leading cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering or related field required.
• Master’s degree and Functional Safety Certifications preferred.
• Experience managing EHS in large manufacturing environments.
• Osha PSM and ISO 14001/45001/50001 knowledge preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a team of EHS professionals.
• Develop and implement strategic EHS initiatives, policies, programs and metrics.
• Coordinate day-to-day safety program implementations (LOTO, Machine Guarding, Powered Industrial Trucks, Electrical Safety, Fall Protection).
• Ensure compliance with EHS regulations, permits, and company policies.
• Design and deliver EHS training programs.
• Facilitate incident investigations with root cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Drive continuous improvement in EHS processes through data analysis and audits.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate EHS into operations.

Job Position Title: Sr. Manager, Environmental Health & Safety Function: EHS Location: Columbus West Job Group/Grade: JG5

Position Summary: This position leads the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) team at our large and complex manufacturing site. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the overall EHS program at the site, including creating and implementing strategic safety and EHS initiatives to foster and enhance our EHS culture. This role requires a strong technical EHS skillset to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. It includes participation on the Plant Leadership Team and managing a team of direct reports as well as the ability to lead and influence without direct authority.Ensures compliance with BD quality systems, policies, procedures and best practices, and all local, state, federal and BD safety regulations, policies and procedures. Regular, punctual attendance is an essential job function. Ability to read and write and converse in English. Willing and able to uphold BD Values.

Duties/Responsibilities

• Leadership: lead and manage a team of EHS professionals, providing guidance, support and development opportunities.
• Strategic Initiatives: Develop and implement strategic EHS initiatives , policies, programs and metrics to continuously improve the site's EHS culture and performance.
• Technical Expertise:Strong background in critical safety programs, such as LOTO, Machine Guarding, Powered Industrial Trucks, Electrical Safety and Fall Protection in order to coordinate day-to-day implemntation of programs
• Compliance:Ensure compliance with all relevant EHS regulations, laws, standards, permits/licenses and company policies.
• Training and Development:Design and deliver training programs to enhance the technical skills and knowledge of the EHS team.
• Incident Management:Facilitate incident investigations with strong root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Continuous Improvement:Drive continuous improvement in EHS processes and practices through data analysis, audits, and feedback.
• Stakeholder Engagement:Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate EHS considerations into operational decisions and projects.
• Other duties as required to support the needs of the business.

Education

• Bachelor’s degree required in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering or related field.
• Master’s degree preferred Functional Safety Certifications, Certified Safety Specialist, Certified Industrial Hygienist, Six Sigma Green, or Black Belt preferred.

Experience

• Five years of relevant experience in EHS management in a large manufacturing environment
• Strong technical knowledge of LOTO, Machine Guarding, incident investigation, and root cause analysis.
• Experience in Medical Device, Chemical, or manufacturing is preferred.
• Experience with OSHA PSM is preferred.
• Experience managing a team in a cross-functional environment is preferred.
• Knowledge and experience in ISO14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 50001 compliance preferred.
• Auditor certifications a plus
