Sr. Manager, Engineering, Enterprise Platform – US Remote
Lead one or more senior engineering teams that build the core backend services, APIs, and distributed systems powering SailPoint’s Atlas Platform.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the day‑to‑day operating cadence of your team(s): planning, prioritization, stand‑ups, and retrospectives.
- Partner with Product Management to set strategic direction, translate into sequenced, well‑scoped execution, and manage roadmap alignment.
- Engage substantively in technical decisions, challenge design choices, and guide the team toward scalable, reliable solutions.
- Coach, grow, and develop engineers along their career paths, hiring and performance management.
- Drive scalability, reliability, and technical‑debt reduction, and determine engineering investment priorities.
- Manage risk, dependencies, and cross‑team commitments, resolving issues proactively.
- Allocate resources across competing priorities and make defensible trade‑off decisions under load.
Requirements
- 8+ years in a Software Engineering Management role focused on backend services exposing APIs.
- 5+ years hands‑on experience as a Software Engineer.
- Deep knowledge of complex, scaling SaaS products and agile processes.
- Technical fluency at the architectural level; ability to discuss trade‑offs with senior engineers.
- Experience with microservice architecture, distributed systems, load balancing, horizontal scalability, and high availability.
- Worked with modern backend stacks (Java, Go, Rust, Kafka, SQS, Temporal, MySQL, DynamoDB).
- Extensive experience architecting, designing, and operating applications in AWS.
- Experience supporting and developing containerized CI/CD deployments, Docker and Kubernetes.
- BS in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
Roadmap and Timeline to Success
- First 30 days: onboard, familiarize with product and technology, take ownership of operating cadence, understand team motivations, interview stakeholders.
- By 90 days: motivate and challenge teams, engage in technical decision‑making, understand key‑path work without needing external updates, sync with stakeholders, iterate delivery and quality.
- By 6 months: make measurable progress on technical debt while delivering new features and defects, achieve consistent commitment delivery, build trust and become a respected stakeholder partner, attract high‑quality engineers.
- By 1 year: align team size and skills to roadmap, consistently achieve business results, culture of continuous learning, optimize processes using data, maintain delivery cadence.
