Job summary

Academy Sports + Outdoors in the United States is seeking a DC/WMS leader to oversee Warehouse Management System performance and RF networks. You will collaborate with DC Operations to optimize merchandise flow, manage budgets, and lead both hourly and salaried staff on site.

The role emphasizes cross-functional management, system upgrades, and driving cost-efficient solutions in a distribution center environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or equivalent work experience.
  • Bachelor’s in Information Systems or Logistics preferred.
  • 4+ years configuring and maintaining rules-based WMS.
  • 4+ years in distribution/warehousing environment.
  • 4+ years of managerial experience.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as liaison between IT and DC site personnel.
  • Monitors, evaluates, and maintains WMS and RF network performance.
  • Analyses and adjusts WMS strategies with DC Operations.
  • Manages tracking of systems equipment and devices.
  • Justifies DC requests for hardware or software changes to the Director.
  • Serves as DC liaison to proper channel(s) for requests.
  • Assists with PC maintenance, upgrades, and replacements.
  • Manages department expenses and budgets.
  • Plans and submits annual budget requests for approval.
  • Manages hourly and salaried staff and reviews performance.
  • Identifies cost-effective solutions to operational challenges.
  • Temporarily fulfills DC Operations Manager role as needed.
  • Maintains internal control documentation and responds to audits.

Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field of study or equivalent years of related work experience required.

Work Experiences
  • 4+ years of experience configuring and maintaining rules based Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) required
  • 4+ years of experience in a distribution or warehousing environment required
  • 4+ years of managerial experience required

  • Possess the desire and ability to quickly achieve and maintain a working knowledge of all other systems used within the Distribution Center (DC).
  • Ability to train and assist WMS Managers in the setup and capabilities of the WMS and associated systems and peripherals.
Responsibilities
  • Serves as liaison between IT and all personnel on DC site.
  • Responsible for monitoring, evaluating, and maintaining the overall performance of the WMS and Radio Frequency (RF) network.
  • Analyzes and adjusts WMS strategies in partnership with DC Operations to ensure efficient flows of merchandise.
  • Manages the proper tracking of systems related equipment and devices.
  • Justifies and communicates any DC requests for new hardware or requests for software changes to facility Director of Distribution.
  • If approved by Director, serves as the DC’s primary liaison to the proper channel(s) in facilitating the requests.
  • Assists with maintenance, upgrades, and replacements of PC’s.
  • Manages department expenses and budgets.
  • Plans and submits annual budget requests for approval.
  • Manages hourly and salaried staff, reviews their performance.
  • Identifies cost-effective solutions to operational challenges.
  • Temporarily fulfills DC Operations Manager role, as needed.
  • Maintain internal control documentation, effectively perform assigned internal controls, remediate internal control exceptions, and response to internal and external audit requests.
  • Responsibilities may change; team member may be required to perform other duties as assigned
Physical Requirements & Attendance
  • Acceptable level of hearing and vision to perform job duties.
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays, evenings, as needed to support DC off shift operations.
  • Operate effectively in a non-climate controlled environment.
  • On-call status 24hrs/day to support Distribution Center operations.
  • Adhere to company work hours, policies, procedures and safety rules governing professional staff behavior.
