Job Description

Gilead's mission is to discover, develop, and deliver therapies that will improve the lives of patients with life-threatening illnesses worldwide. Reporting to the Director of Commercial Learning and Development (CL+D) for the HIV PrEP Business Unit, the Senior Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive training curriculum. This role involves designing and executing training programs for various teams, such as Prevention Specialists, Field Reimbursement Managers, Nurse Educators, and Market Expansion Specialists. Additionally, the Senior Manager will conduct field ride-alongs to provide coaching and assess continuous training opportunities. They will oversee Regional Trainers (RTs), ensuring effective training dissemination and feedback collection. This position offers flexibility to be remote (with 25-30% travel) or based at headquarters (with 15-20% travel).

Essential Duties:

  • Lead and collaborate on the development and implementation of training focused on therapeutic disease state and product knowledge.
  • Develop and execute training programs, product launches, communication skills, selling skills, and ongoing learning sustainment initiatives.
  • Conduct field ride-alongs to provide coaching across teams within the business unit.
  • Collaborate with internal departments, including Marketing, Commercial Operations, Global CL+D, Medical Information, Legal, Business Conduct, and Regulatory, to develop appropriate training.
  • Oversee Regional Trainers (RTs), ensuring effective training for the field and collecting feedback on training needs.
  • Partner with external vendors to design curricula and plan instructional methods using adult learning principles.
  • Conduct needs assessments, identify targeted participant characteristics, and solicit cross-functional feedback before finalizing design and strategy.
  • Offer solutions for bridging gaps between current organizational capabilities and needs.
  • Ensure readiness for training deployment, including identifying key stakeholders and determining their needs in advance.
  • Partner with subject matter experts and key stakeholders to identify training needs, improve training solutions, and lead change initiative implementation.
  • Monitor and maintain alignment with the strategic training plan while balancing short-term and long-term business goals.
  • Manage budget for training resources and meetings.

Knowledge, Experience, and Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Teams, PowerPoint).
  • Highly self-motivated and self-managed; ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Efficient, strategic, and analytical mindset.
  • Excellent facilitation and communication skills.
  • Ability to handle diverse technical tasks and build consensus.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Comfortable working with people at all levels of the organization globally, as well as with suppliers, vendors, and customers.
  • Effective communication in visual, oral, and written presentation forms.
  • Ability to manage projects from initiation to delivery, either as live training or virtual deliverables.
  • Ability to manage multiple vendors from selection to final deliverable.
  • Focus on performance by establishing clear objectives for training.
  • Strong interpersonal communication, facilitation, problem-solving, decision-making, and analytical skills.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School Degree + 12 years experience OR
  • Associate’s Degree + 10 years OR
  • Bachelor’s Degree + 8 years OR
  • Master’s Degree + 6 years, OR
  • Ph.D.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS degree + 6 years in a related field.
  • 8 years of commercial pharmaceutical/biotech experience.
  • 3 years of successful Field Sales experience.
  • 1 year of commercial training experience.
  • Experience in HIV Treatment/PREP.
  • Sales, marketing, or training experience in biotech/pharma.
  • Market access and launch experience.

The salary range for this position is: $143,225.00 - $185,350.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans.
