Intermountain Health is seeking a Laboratory Genetic Counselor to support Select Health and the Genetic Laboratory Stewardship Program. The role involves reviewing pre-authorization requests, educating providers, and occasional patient counseling.

The position can be remote, hybrid, or in-person, with a day shift and 40 hours per week. Candidates must hold a Master’s in Genetic Counseling, be eligible for ABGC certification, and be licensed in Utah.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Genetic Counseling from an accredited program.
• Eligibility for ABGC certification at time of hire with certification within one year.
• Licensed as a Genetic Counselor in Utah.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Experience in reading, interpreting, and critical evaluation of scientific literature.
• Experience using PowerPoint, word processing, spreadsheet, internet, e-mail, and scheduling.
• Experience in a role requiring effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

The Laboratory Genetic Counselor supports Select Health contract work and the Genetic Laboratory Stewardship Program. While some patient consultation is occasionally involved, the Laboratory Genetic Counselor primarily functions both independently and as a team member in supporting development, implementation, and quality review of clinical genetic testing. Additional Details: This is will be a remote position working 50% for Heredigene and 50% for SelectHealth.

Scope: This position provides direct laboratory genetic counseling for ordering providers and patients as required. The position can be fully remote, hybrid, or in-person.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master's degree in Genetic Counseling. Education must be obtained from an accredited program. Degree will be verified.
• Eligibility for certification by the American Board of Genetic Counselors (ABGC) at time of hire with completion of certification required within one year of hire.
• Licensed as a Genetic Counselor in the state of practice (Utah).
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Experience in reading, interpreting, and critical evaluation of scientific literature.
• Experience using PowerPoint, word processing, spreadsheet, database, internet, e-mail, and scheduling.
• Experience in a role requiring effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certification by the American Board of Genetic Counselors (ABGC).
• Three years of experience as a clinical or laboratory Genetic Counselor.
• Experience in project management, grant application submission, publication of abstracts for academic meetings, and journal article publication.
• Demonstrated knowledge of genetic diagnostic technology, human mutation databases, genome browsers, and HGVS nomenclature.
• Licensed as a Genetic Counselor in multiple states.

Physical Qualifications

• Interact with others requiring employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information.
• Operate computers, telephones, office equipment, and manipulate paper requiring the ability to move fingers and hands.
• See and read computer monitors and documents.
• Remain sitting or standing for long periods of time to perform work on a computer, telephone, or other equipment.
