Job summary

Danaher Diagnostics is seeking a Senior IP Counsel to lead patent and trademark activities, advise on exclusivity, and support freedom-to-operate analyses. This remote role reports to the Chief IP Counsel and collaborates with the IP team.

You will integrate with R&D to identify IP opportunities, manage patent prosecution, monitor third-party activity, oversee OSS licensing, and run trademark strategy with outside counsel.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor from a US law school with excellent academic credentials.
  • Active bar membership in good standing in at least one US jurisdiction.
  • Minimum 8+ years of IP legal experience, including patent prosecution and IP-related agreements.

The Sr. IP Counsel is responsible for performing patent activities and trademark activities as well as exclusivity analysis at varying levels of complexity. The Sr. IP Counsel interacts with the business and general legal to advise on patent and/or trademark activities, provide advice on product exclusivity and freedom to operate counseling. This position reports to the Chief IP Counsel and is part of the Danaher IP team and will be a remote role.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Integrate with R&D teams to understand the technology and products and identify key IP opportunities, enabling innovative protection strategies.
  • Provide full-range patent support: preparation and prosecution of patent applications, freedom‑to‑operate (FTO) studies (including infringement and validity analysis), and client counseling.
  • Monitor third‑party patent activity and assess competitive IP positioning.
  • Manage the selection, integration, and ongoing compliance of open‑source software components used across our products, including license review and security vetting.
  • Manage the company's trademark portfolio, including filing strategy, prosecution, renewals, and enforcement, in coordination with outside counsel.

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited U.S. law school with excellent academic credentials.
  • Active bar membership in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Admission to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
  • Minimum of 8+ years of IP legal experience, including hands‑on patent prosecution of complex portfolios and drafting/negotiating IP‑related agreements in both law firm and in‑house settings.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related technical field, with relevant coursework or experience in medical diagnostics or life sciences preferred.

The annual salary range OR the hourly range for this role is $220,000-$250,000 USD. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. This range may be modified in the future. This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay. We offer comprehensive package of benefits including paid time off, medical/dental/vision insurance and 401(k) to eligible employees. Note: No amount of pay is considered to be wages or compensation until such amount is earned, vested, and determinable. The amount and availability of any bonus, commission, benefits, or any other form of compensation and benefits that are allocable to a particular employee remains in the Company's sole discretion unless and until paid and may be modified at the Company’s sole discretion, consistent with the law.
