Job summary

Ascend Learning, a leading healthcare and learning technology company, is seeking a Senior Internal Auditor to conduct operational, financial, technology, and compliance audits to assess risk and strengthen controls. You will collaborate with Internal Audit leadership and business stakeholders to understand processes and report findings that drive improvements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or related field.
• 3+ years of work experience in external audit, internal audit, or related field focusing on risk and compliance.
• Preferred certifications include CIA, CPA, CISA or other relevant designations.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite; openness to using AI tools; experience with audit analytics tools is a plus.
• Ability for minimal travel.

• Collaborate with Internal Audit leadership and business stakeholders to understand key processes and strengthen the internal control environment.
• Perform walkthroughs, control testing, process reviews, and reporting to support audit activities.
• Prepare clear, organized documentation and draft findings to support audit work and recommendations.
• Work with management to finalize action plans addressing findings and improving processes and controls.
• Contribute as an individual contributor to the successful delivery of Internal Audit projects.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

As a Senior Internal Auditor, you will conduct operational, financial, technology, and compliance audits to assess risk and identify control gaps. You will collaborate with Internal Audit leadership and business stakeholders to understand key processes and enhance the internal control environment. Your responsibilities will include performing walkthroughs, control testing, process reviews, and reporting to support the growth of the Internal Audit Function. WHERE YOU’LL WORK

This position will work hybrid out of our Leawood, KS office.

HOW YOU’LL SPEND YOUR TIME

• Execute walkthroughs, develop process narratives and flowcharts, and perform testing of key controls for design and operating effectiveness, incorporating data analytics and AI tools to strengthen audit results, increase efficiency, and enhance business processes.
• Demonstrate clear and concise writing and verbal skills to communicate complex issues in simple terms to auditees and team members.
• Prepare clear, organized, and complete documentation to support audit work including draft findings.
• Collaborate with management and stakeholders to finalize action plans that address audit findings and enhance processes and controls.
• Work closely with process owners, manage cross-functional deliverables, and provide status updates and related reporting.
• Serve as an individual contributor, ensuring the successful delivery of Internal Audit projects.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

• Demonstrated ability to manage unexpected changes in timelines and project scope, while maintaining accountability, and high-quality results.
• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality, accurate work including comfort working with imperfect documentation and processes.
• Effective communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly and concisely, and to assess and respond appropriately to various business situations.
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in Accounting, Business, Finance, or a related field.
• 3+ years of work experience in external audit, internal audit, or a related field, with a focus on risk and compliance consulting, including internal controls over financial reporting.
• Preferred certifications include Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), or other relevant professional designations.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and openness to using AI tools is required, and experience with other Internal Audit analytical tools is preferred.
• Ability for minimal travel.

HIRING RANGE

The current full-time, annualized base pay hiring range for this role is $83,800.00-$119,900.00. In accordance with applicable state laws, we are providing the expected pay range for this position. Individual compensation will be determined by various factors, including relevant experience, qualifications, current business needs and local market factors. Most regular, full-time employees are eligible to participate in an Ascend incentive bonus or sales plan.
