Job summary

Peraton in Washington, DC is seeking a Sr Information Systems Security Officer - Cloud to support Federal Strategic Cyber programs. You will lead risk analysis, security control implementation, and RMF activities across systems.

The role requires extensive DoD cybersecurity experience, a cleared status or ability to obtain TS/SCI, and multiple cloud certifications, with collaboration across engineering and stakeholder teams to strengthen defenses and ensure compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business Management, or IT related discipline.
• 9+ years in CS or Cybersecurity with 7+ years as ISSO at a cleared facility.
• Must have one of CISSP, GISP, or CASP+/SecurityX; cloud certs: AWS Security Specialty, CCSP, AWS SA Associate, AZ-500, or Google Professional Cloud Security Engineer.
• Must meet DoD 8140.03 Advanced proficiency for ISSM Work Role 722; many certifications or advanced degrees listed.
• Familiarity with security tools including Nessus, Splunk, Guardium, Web Inspect, NMAP.

Responsibilities

• Guide system categorization efforts and ensure proper classification based on mission impact and regulatory requirements.
• Advise on selection and documentation of security controls aligned with risk appetite and compliance.
• Oversee implementation of controls across lifecycles with focus on deliverables quality.
• Plan and document comprehensive security control assessments for effectiveness.
• Prepare risk management documentation for system authorization and executive decisions.
• Direct ongoing monitoring and metrics collection to adjust security strategies.
• Act as principal technical advisor on cybersecurity, risk analysis, incident response, remediation, and audit support.
• Foster security awareness and provide guidance to team members and stakeholders.
• Track and report status, risks, and improvement opportunities to leadership.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of RMF, NIST guidance, and industry best practices.

About The Role

Peraton is seeking an Sr Information Systems Security Officer - Cloud to support our Federal Strategic Cyber programs.

In this role, you will:

• Guide system categorization efforts to ensure all information systems are appropriately classified based on mission/business impact and regulatory requirements.
• Advise on the selection, tailoring, and documentation of security controls aligned with system categorizations, risk appetite, and compliance requirements.
• Oversee the implementation of technical, operational, and management controls throughout system and application lifecycles, with a particular focus on quality and completeness of all deliverables.
• Ensure comprehensive security control assessments are planned, executed, and documented to validate the effectiveness of implemented safeguards.
• Prepare risk management documentation for system authorization and executive decision-making.
• Direct ongoing monitoring and continuous assessment activities, collecting metrics to adjust security strategies and ensure sustained compliance.
• Serve as a principal technical advisor on cybersecurity, bringing subject-matter expertise to risk analysis, incident response, system remediation, and audit support efforts.
• Foster a culture of security awareness, providing technical guidance and training to both team members and stakeholders.
• Track, report, and communicate status, risks, and improvement opportunities related to security engineering activities to leadership and stakeholders.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of RMF, NIST guidance, and industry best practices in support of continuous process improvement.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business Management, or IT related discipline.
• Minimum of 9 years of work experience in a Computer Science or Cybersecurity related field with at least 7 of those years serving as an Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) at a cleared facility.
• Must have at least 1 of the following certifications: CISSP, GISP, or CASP+/SecurityX
• In addition, must have one cloud certification:
• AWS Security Specialty, CCSP, AWS SA Associate, AZ-500, or Google Professional Cloud Security Engineer
• Must meet DoD 8140.03 Advanced proficiency aligned to Information Systems Security Manager (Work Role 722). Must have at least 1 of the following certifications or advanced education listed below:

Target Salary Range: $146,000 - $234,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
