Blue Origin is seeking an experienced Industrial Engineer to lead factory design, capacity modeling, and NPI for satellite manufacturing programs. You will translate product designs and rate targets into an efficient production system, applying lean principles and advanced manufacturing concepts to build a world-class facility.

The role requires strong systems thinking, hands-on problem solving, and a track record of leading significant projects in manufacturing engineering.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
• 8+ years of experience in industrial or manufacturing engineering with a history of leading significant projects.
• Expert-level ability to design complex manufacturing systems from the ground up, including greenfield/brownfield planning.
• Proven record of leading major NPI initiatives and interfacing with design/production teams.
• Expert-level knowledge of Lean Manufacturing with measurable CI results.
• Experience mentoring and developing junior engineers.

Responsibilities

• Design, model, and implement optimal factory layouts for assembly lines, integration cells, and test areas focusing on safety and ergonomics.
• Analyze end-to-end material and information flow; create value stream maps for current and future state operations.
• Develop capacity models to determine production rates and inform capital equipment and workforce planning.
• Serve as IE liaison for NPI, assist DFMA, develop manufacturing plans, work instructions, and tooling requirements.
• Lead lean initiatives (Kaizen, 5S, standard work) to improve quality, cost, and delivery.
• Establish and report KPIs such as cycle time, takt time, and labor hours per unit.

This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

As an Industrial Engineer for Blue Origin’s satellite manufacturing programs, you will be at the forefront of creating a factory of the future. You will serve as the technical authority for factory flow, layout optimization, capacity modeling, and New Product Introduction (NPI). This role is foundational to establishing a world class production system capable of building satellite constellations that will connect the planet and support Blue Origin’s mission of benefiting Earth.

We are seeking an engineer who can blend systems level thinking with a hands-on, practical approach to problem solving. You will be responsible for translating product designs and rate targets into a physical and operational reality. This is a unique opportunity to design a production system from the ground up, implementing lean principles and advanced manufacturing concepts to build a key strategic capability for Blue.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Factory Design & Layout: Design, model, and implement optimal factory layouts for assembly lines, integration cells, and test areas, focusing on safety, ergonomics, and minimizing wasted movement and transportation.
• Process Flow & Value Stream Mapping: Analyze and define the end to end flow of material and information. Create detailed value stream maps for current and future state operations to identify and eliminate bottlenecks, reduce lead times, and optimize process sequencing.
• Capacity Modeling & Analysis: Develop and maintain detailed capacity models to determine production rate capabilities, identify constraints (equipment, labor, floorspace), and inform capital equipment and workforce planning.
• New Product Introduction (NPI):Act as the primary IE liaison between the design engineering teams and production system teams. Assisting in Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFMA) analysis, and develop manufacturing plans, work instructions, and tooling/fixture requirements to ensure a smooth transition from design to full rate production.
• Continuous Improvement & Lean: Champion and lead lean manufacturing initiatives (e.g., Kaizen events, 5S, standard work, material presentation strategies) to drive continuous improvements in quality, cost, and delivery.
• Metrics & Data Analysis: Establish, track, and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) such as cycle time, takt time, first pass yield, and labor hours per unit to drive data-informed decisions.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
• _ 8+ years of experience _ in an industrial or manufacturing engineering role, with a demonstrated history of leading significant projects.
• _ Expert-level ability _ in designing complex manufacturing systems from the ground up, including greenfield or brownfield factory planning.
• Proven record of leading major New Product Introduction (NPI) initiatives, acting as the primary manufacturing interface for a new product line.
• Expert-level knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles and a track record of leading transformative continuous improvement projects with quantifiable results.
• Experience mentoring and developing junior engineers.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in a relevant engineering or business field.
• Experience architecting and scaling production systems in the aerospace, satellite, or automotive industries.
• Extensive experience with discrete event simulation software, using it not just for analysis but for strategic “what-if” planning and executive decision support.
• Experience with the selection and implementation of MES and ERP systems.
• Black Belt certification in Lean Six Sigma.

Compensation Range for:

CO applicants is $123,611.00 - $173,054.70WA applicants is $134,434.00 - $188,207.25
