Overview
Sr. Human Resources Generalist position at Houston Methodist. Cypress, CA. The Senior HR Generalist provides subject-matter-expert HR support to assigned business units in areas including employee relations, policy interpretation, management consultation, talent acquisition, workforce data analysis, and performance appraisal training. The role requires emotional intelligence, critical thinking, and the ability to shift between functional areas to anticipate HR needs and meet deadlines. The Senior HR Generalist serves as a role model within the HR department, offering training and guidance to other HR team members as appropriate.
Responsibilities
- Participate in employee relations activities including conflict resolution, counseling for managers and staff, and conducting interviews (follow-up, exit, focus groups). Coach, train, and guide client managers and staff on employee relations, policy interpretation, procedures, benefits, compensation, job description development, payroll, turnover, employee satisfaction, performance management, conflict resolution, and legal issues (e.g., FMLA, ADA, sexual harassment).
- Serve as a role model and mentor peers; identify opportunities to improve department scores related to turnover, retention, and employee engagement.
- Collaborate with HR colleagues on system-wide initiatives across functions and entities.
- Consult with management to assess performance improvement needs and develop action plans.
Responsibilities – Service
- Assist in developing and executing HR strategies with leadership to support business objectives, including improving retention and employee satisfaction and achieving department and hospital goals.
- Attend client department meetings to share HR updates and learn about operational changes; identify HR intervention opportunities to support business goals.
- Support proactive workforce planning; monitor turnover and time-to-fill trends; partner with recruitment to remove barriers to filling positions; participate in recruitment when needed.
- Deliver training for new employee orientation, management education, and supervisor skills development; tailor training for large groups, small groups, and individuals, and suggest improvements to management skills.
Responsibilities – Quality and Safety
- Interpret HR policies and procedures for employees and managers; recommend policy, procedure, and process improvements to HR leadership; develop or revise policies as needed; educate staff on new policies.
- Conduct investigations (e.g., EEOC charges, business practice complaints, unemployment claims); summarize findings for management and leadership; support employment-related decisions.
- Gather and interpret data; perform workforce data analysis; prepare summary reports; recommend actions to improve HR metrics.
Responsibilities – Finance
- Explain compensation policy and recommendations to management; participate in compensation-related activities (job descriptions, counseling on compensation, analysis, and recommendations). Advise on compensation discussions and develop business cases for modified compensation recommendations; collaborate with compensation colleagues as needed.
- Use resources efficiently and manage time effectively; assist coworkers as needed.

- Support change management initiatives and collaborate with Organizational Development to implement change strategies.
- Identify personal development needs and engage in career development; maintain and update the My Development Plan regularly.

Qualifications
Education
Work Experience
- Four years of Human Resources experience with at least three years at a higher level related to employee/labor relations, organizational consulting, recruitment, compensation, and/or benefits administration
Licenses and Certifications – Required

- SPHR – Senior Professional in Human Resources (SHRM) OR
- SHRM-CP – Certified Professional in HR (SHRM) OR
