Actalent in WA seeks a Sr. Hardware Engineer to own RF and digital hardware from schematic to manufacturing release. You will troubleshoot test yields, build production fixtures, and push for robust, testable boards in a high-mix/low-volume environment.

You will collaborate with firmware on FPGA bring-up, design reviews, and obsolescence management while supporting new product design and environmental qualification. This is an onsite, permanent role in the Columbia River Gorge area.

SR. HARDWARE ENGINEER

Columbia River Gorge, WA (onsite)

About the Role

Youll be the hardware engineer who keeps a line of aviation radio electronics moving through production and makes it better every month. Production volume is climbing, and test yield is the bottleneck. Youll dig into failing boards, build the fixtures and automated test stations that screen them, and redesign around parts going end of life. RF is the biggest gap on this small team, so your RF bench skills will get used every day. As production settles down, youll pick up new design work and sit in on reviews for every new board. Its a long-term seat, not a short project.

What Youll Do

• Find out why boards fail test and fix the root cause, working with production, firmware, quality and suppliers.

• Build and maintain production fixtures, board screening stations and automated test gear, along with the scripts that run them.

• Write test plans, procedures and pass and fail limits that give you clean production data to trend over time.

• Lead obsolescence redesigns and qualify alternate parts, from the first impact check all the way to release.

• Review schematics, layouts, RF signal paths, grounding and shielding, and push for designs that are easy to build and test.

• Work with firmware engineers on FPGA and processor bring-up, diagnostics and the code that drives your test stations.

• Help with new product design, bench testing and environmental qualification as the production load comes down.

Required Skills

• 8+ years of hardware engineering on digital, mixed-signal and RF products, with a BS in EE or matching hands‑on experience.

• Hands‑on RF circuit work on receivers, transmitters, mixers, filters, amps, synthesizers and matching networks.

• Taking boards in Altium from schematic all the way to a manufacturing release.

• Digital hardware with processors, microcontrollers, high‑speed interfaces and power supplies.

• Production support that improved yield, test coverage or reliability, including obsolescence redesigns or alternate part qualification.

• Strong lab debugging with oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, VNAs, signal generators and logic analyzers.

Preferred Skills

• Board design for production test stations and fixtures.

• Boards that pair an FPGA and processor with power, communication interfaces and RF transmit and receive paths.

• Avionics or other safety‑critical radio products, and regulated work under AS9100, DO-160 or DO-254.

• Test automation in Python, LabVIEW, MATLAB, C or C++, or on NI hardware.

Schedule and Work Environment

This role is on‑site five days a week. Youll split your time between the lab bench, the production floor and design reviews in a small hardware group, working closely with production, firmware, quality and outside suppliers. Pre‑employment screening is required.

The pay range for this position is $62.50 - $67.31/hr.
