Job summary

Duke Energy is seeking a senior Program Manager in the Generation Program Management area to lead comprehensive programmatic strategies for the Regulated and Renewable Energy fleet. You will develop plans, processes, and standards, and collaborate with senior leadership to drive improvements across multiple sites.

Responsibilities include implementing program initiatives, coordinating with OEMs and external consultants, and ensuring compliance, governance, and reporting across the fleet.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required with 10 years related experience, or Highschool/GED with 18 years related experience.
  • PE License is preferred.
  • Strong collaboration and written/verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Continually evaluate fleet events, industry developments, supplier changes, environmental legislation, regulatory drivers, and strategic direction to identify opportunities to improve performance and cost effectiveness of program strategies; prepare reports and presentations on complex issues.
  • Leads development and scoping of new improvement initiatives; provide technical leadership for program execution; communicate results to senior management and stakeholders; build consensus and secure funding when appropriate.
  • Manage relationships with OEMs and vendors to meet safety, quality, value, and financial needs; identify opportunities for multi-year vendor relationships to leverage savings; assist with contract performance issues when stalled at project level.
  • Develop and lead routine program assessments to identify gaps; support stations during audits/outages; create tools to perform gap analysis and prioritize recommendations for improvement.
  • Influence leaders to implement consistent standards; lead industry groups; integrate best practices; establish metrics and KPIs; revise initiatives to respond to changes.

Turbine and Generator Services (TGS) exists to provide programmatic engineering and technical support to the Regulated and Renewable Energy (RRE) fleet of turbines and generators. We embrace and diligently pursue the vision of zero major events for these centerline assets resulting in substantial and sustained improvements in station availability/reliability and exceptional long-term shareholder value. TGS is committed to relentlessly and purposefully leveraging people, organizations, information, technology, and analytical techniques to identify, evaluate and address any issue that could contribute to a major event.

This position is the expert level of the Generation Program Manager hierarchy and is responsible for the development and implementation of comprehensive programmatic strategies for the RRE fleet of turbines and generators. These strategies address corporate strategic objectives, financial goals, regulatory requirements, technology limitations, and OEM/vendor relationships. The Program Manager will ensure adequate and consistent plans, processes, documentation, and standards are developed, trained, implemented, and exercised to ensure all RRE sites maintain compliance with the program outline. At this level, the employee will solve the most complex problems and will have wide latitude for unreviewed work and proposals submitted to Senior Leadership teams. Assignments at this level require the highest level of critical thinking to resolve high-impact, complex and/or cross-functional problems. Incumbents are expected to have advanced skills, work independently and are to be considered industry experts in their discipline or in a particular field. They consult on strategic and highly complex work.

The incumbent must have leadership ability, organizational knowledge, experience, and strategic vision to implement relevant programs to address issues in the fleet. The incumbent must possess the technical acumen to design/analyze/assess program details, have proficiency in financial or economic analysis to optimize results and recommend adjustment to program initiatives, all to achieve defined improvement results.

The position requires excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to lead the preparation of complex reports and presentations. This level will frequently interface with all levels of management including GMs, VPs, Senior VPs, and the senior management groups.

The position requires a high level of coordination skills as well as the ability to manage complex technical projects involving other departments, outside consultants and industry groups. The Program Manager is expected to frequently interface with industry groups and peers to benchmark best practices and to lead the industry in a rapidly changing environment.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Continually evaluate changing and emergent fleet events, industry developments, supplier changes, environmental legislation, regulatory drivers, and corporate strategic direction to identify opportunities to improve the performance and cost effectiveness of program strategies. Prepare reports, white papers, and/or presentations which address technically complex and financially significant issues
  • Leads the development and scoping of new improvement initiatives across the fleet to maintain compliance with standards and company governance and policies. Provides technical leadership for the execution of program initiatives. Effectively communicates the results of initiatives to senior management and other stakeholders. Build consensus through these efforts and secure project approval and funding when appropriate
  • Manage existing and develop new business relationships with OEMs and other vendors to ensure our business and other needs are being met (such as safety, quality work, good value, financial needs, warranty, etc.). Identify opportunities for multi‑year vendor relationships to leverage cost savings and bundling opportunities. Assist with the resolution of contract performance commercial issues when stalled at the project level.
  • Develop and lead routine program assessment activities to provide early identification of gaps and program issues. Provide support for RRE stations during audits, assessments, and outage preparation and execution activities. Create tools and templates to perform gap analysis on important programmatic areas and prioritize recommendations that will lead to improvement action plans.
  • Influence business unit leaders on implementation of consistent standards across the business unit. Lead industry peer groups to ensure company engagement with emerging issues. Actively integrates industry best practices into Duke Energy fleet initiatives and programs. Establish metrics and KPI in support of fleet initiatives and business targets. Revise initiatives to respond to changing industry/fleet trends and priorities
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree AND 10 years minimum required related work experience
  • In lieu of degree and experience listed above, Highschool/GED AND 18 years of minimum required related work experience
Additional Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's in Engineering/Science/Business, or PE License
  • Strong collaboration/interpersonal skills and written/verbal communication skills
  • Business acumen and ability to interpret regulatory language
Working Conditions
  • Hybrid Mobility Classification - Work may be performed in various corporate/regional offices, and/or generating stations, and/or remotely, as needed, after the onboarding period. Employees are required to live within a reasonable daily commute to their assigned work location.
  • Primary location will be Lark Facility in Mt. Holly/Charlotte area
  • Location(s) near Raleigh, NC, St. Petersburg, FL, or Plainfield, IN may be considered in lieu of the Charlotte area. ng stations.
