Job summary

Plug is seeking a Senior Engineer to join our growing Engineering team. You will own entire customer-facing or internal products, building systems like AI-powered pricing intelligence and real-time API connections to EV manufacturers.

We are an in-person role based in Sawtelle (between Santa Monica and West LA) or San Francisco, with relocation assistance; sponsorship is not available. You will collaborate across a nascent team, driving architecture and product decisions together with operators

Qualifications

• 5-8 years of hands-on experience building production applications.
• Proficiency in TypeScript across backend, frontend, databases, and APIs.
• Experience deploying cloud-hosted apps; familiarity with Terraform and CI/CD.
• Experience with agent-first development workflows and reviewing AI-generated output.
• Strong engineering quality bar: tests, code reviews, readable code for humans and AI.
• Startup experience and end-to-end ownership of work.
• Authorized to work in the US for any employer.
• Prior automotive or EV systems experience is a plus.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a Senior Engineer to join our growing team! A senior full-stack software engineer who will report to our engineering lead, and who will own entire customer-facing or internal products. We're building systems like AI-powered pricing intelligence, real-time connectivity to vehicle manufacturer APIs, auction application, and data pipelines that aggregate EV-specific information from dozens of sources - all to make the wholesale EV market faster, smarter, and more transparent.

What You’ll Do

• Collaborate with colleagues and be a strong voice in product design sessions, architecture discussions, and code reviews.
• Design, implement, test, debug, and document work on new and existing software features and products, ensuring they meet business, quality, and operational needs.
• Take ownership of features and products, and support their planning and development by understanding the ultimate goal and evaluating effort, risk, and priority in an agile environment.
• Use agentic coding tools to write clear, efficient, and scalable code with an eye towards flexibility and maintainability.
• Own and contribute to team productivity and process improvements.
• Use and develop APIs to create integrations between Plug and 3rd party platforms.
• Actively raise the technical bar of the team through thoughtful code review, pairing, and knowledge sharing - including how you use AI tools.

What You’ll Bring

• 5-8 years of hands-on experience developing and delivering production applications.
• Demonstrated proficiency in TypeScript across the full stack - backend, frontend, relational databases, and API/webhook integrations. Temporal experience is a strong plus.
• Hands-on experience deploying and operating cloud-hosted applications; comfort with infrastructure-as-code (we use Terraform), CI/CD pipelines, feature flags, and observability tooling.
• Operates in agent-first development workflows - comfortable orchestrating multiple agents, defining clear acceptance criteria, and reviewing AI-generated output with a high quality bar.
• A strong engineering quality bar - writing tests, conducting code reviews, producing code that is readable by both humans and AI agents, and communicating clearly in writing.
• Considers cross-surface and downstream implications of technical decisions - writes code and designs systems that other engineers can understand, extend, and depend on.
• Prior startup experience and a track record of owning work end-to-end: scoping, shipping, and measuring impact.
• Authorized to work in the US for any employer.
• Prior experience in automotive or EV systems is a plus.

Compensation And Benefits

Annual salary: $175,000-$215,000

Salary ranges reflect independent, third-party benchmarking against national compensation data. Where an individual's actual offer falls within that range depends on a combination of factors, including relevant experience, specialized skills, training and qualifications, current business needs, and prevailing market conditions. Ranges are reviewed periodically and may be adjusted to reflect changing market conditions.

This full-time position is an in-person role ideally based in Sawtelle (between Santa Monica and West Los Angeles). We are headquartered in Los Angeles and is our preferred location, with relocation assistance provided for successful candidates who need to relocate. Candidates already based in the San Francisco area will also be considered; relocation is not required for these candidates. Sponsorship is not available at this time.
