Job summary

DLA Piper is seeking a Sr Financial Planning & Analysis Analyst to analyze trends in expenses and capital expenditures and develop financial models to support strategic initiatives. You will monitor performance indicators, prepare monthly close reporting, and provide timely financial recommendations to management.

The role includes collaboration with FP&A, preparing budgets/forecasts, and identifying cost-saving opportunities. Hybrid work with offices in NY, Baltimore, Reston or Short Hills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration or similar field required.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in a law firm, professional services firm or blue-chip organization focusing on expense management/FP&A.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze financial data and communicate findings clearly.

Responsibilities

• Utilizes experience to analyze material aspects of $500m expense and capital expenditure program for administrative teams.
• Consolidates results with FP&A Manager – Expenses and explains variances to budget and prior year results.
• Develops budgets and forecasts for groups, including bottoms up expense drivers and documentation of assumptions.
• Independently develops and produces reporting to support monthly close and annual planning processes.
• Performs ad-hoc analyses to identify cost savings opportunities.
• Prepares and loads journal entry adjustments to budget and actuals as required.
• Identifies cost savings opportunities across the organization.
• Collaborates with FP&A areas including revenue and production planning.
• Other duties as assigned.

Summary

As a Sr Financial Planning & Analysis Analyst, working in collaboration with and in support of the firm’s strategic initiatives, you will analyze current and past trends in key performance indicators including all areas of expenses and capital expenditures. You will monitor performance indicators, highlighting trends and analyzing causes of unexpected variances. You will develop financial models and analyses to support strategic initiatives. You will analyze complex financial information and reports to provide accurate and timely financial recommendations to management for decision making purposes.

Location

This position can sit in our New York, Baltimore, Reston, or Short Hills office and offers a hybrid work schedule.

Responsibilities

• Utilizing experience and judgement, analyzes material aspects of $500m expense and capital expenditure program for administrative teams (i.e., CIO, CFO, COO, etc.).
• Works directly with FP&A Manager – Expenses to consolidate results. Explains variances to budget and prior year results.
• Develops budgets and forecasts for the groups, including bottoms up expense drivers and detailed documentation of assumptions.
• Independently develops and produces reporting to support monthly close and annual planning processes based on previous experience.
• Performs ad-hoc analysis leveraging data analytic skills as needed for new initiatives, cost anomalies and to identify cost savings opportunities.
• Prepares and loads required journal entry adjustments to the company’s budget and actuals as required.
• Proactively leads processes to identify cost savings opportunities across the organization.
• Collaborates with other areas of FP&A including revenue and production planning.
• Other duties as assigned.

Desired Skills

Strong analytical skills required as well as the ability to present complex financial data in a clear and concise manner. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Proficient with software packages such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint and ERP.

Minimum Education

• Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or similar field.

Minimum Years Of Experience

• 5 years of experience in a law firm, professional services firm or blue-chip organization with a focus on expense management and/or financial planning.

Physical Demands

Sedentary work: This is primarily sedentary work, requiring occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects. The role involves sitting for extended periods, with occasional walking and standing, and occasional travel, both domestic and international.

Work Environment

The individual selected for this position may have the opportunity for a hybrid work arrangement comprised of remote and in-office work, the requirement for which will be determined in coordination with the hiring manager or supervisor and may be modified in the firm’s discretion in the future.

The firm’s expected hiring range for this position is $95,000 - $138,000 per year depending on the candidate’s geographic market location.
