Job summary

Associates Systems LLC seeks a Senior Flight Software Engineer to design and develop embedded flight software for spaceflight applications. The role reports to the Software Team Lead and is onsite at the ASTC facility.

Multiple openings may exist at different levels. The team will collaborate across avionics, hardware, and software to ensure robust real-time systems and CI/CD-enabled delivery.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in CS or related field.
  • 7+ years of C++ in embedded Linux environment.
  • 5+ years spaceflight or safety-critical software experience.
  • 5+ years leading software development from concept to delivery.
  • Familiarity with microcontroller programming in C.
  • Experience with Bitbucket or GitLab and Jenkins, and Agile processes.
  • Familiar with containerization for CI/CD on Linux.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and test embedded flight software with a team.
  • Provide software technical leadership in assigned area.
  • Design efficient, secure, maintainable software.
  • Collaborate with hardware/software engineers on board-level firmware.
  • Participate in design/code reviews and CI/CD activities.
  • Mentor junior software engineers and support milestones.

Job description

Our team is looking for an energetic and dynamic Senior Flight Software Engineer who will primarily be responsible for the design and development of flight software for the Space Station. This position reports to Software Team Lead. This role is onsite and will be based at our ASTC facility.

This position has multiple job openings (and may be filled at multiple levels).

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Work with a team to design, develop, and test embedded flight software
  • Provide software technical leadership in assigned area of responsibility
  • Design and build functional, efficient, dependable, secure, and maintainable software
  • Collaborate with hardware and software engineers on board-level firmware
  • Give and receive productive feedback during collaboration and in design and code reviews
  • Execute test plans and procedures in Hardware-in-the-Loop testbeds and support test automation platforms to facilitate CI/CD initiatives
  • Collaborate effectively with avionics engineers to integrate hardware simulation and fault injection solutions into real-time software
  • Support completion of milestone reviews such as PDR, CDR, and SDR
  • Provide mentoring to junior software engineers
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or related field
  • 7+ years of experience using C++ in an embedded Linux environment
  • 5+ years of experience in developing software for spaceflight or other safety critical systems
  • 5+ years of experience leading software development from concept thru delivery
  • Familiarity with microcontroller programming in C
  • Experience with Bitbucket or Gitlab and Jenkins software tools, and Agile software development processes
  • Familiar with containerization supporting Continuous Development/Continuous Integration pipelines on Linux Systems
Essential Functions

Work Environment: Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task.
