Job summary

A2e Technologies is seeking an Embedded S/W / Firmware Engineer for onsite work in Reston, VA. The contract role may convert to permanent, starting ASAP, focusing on space-grade firmware architectures and end-to-end development.

Responsibilities include Linux, scripting, Docker, HDL familiarity, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure integration and high reliability in space environments.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of relevant firmware experience.
• BS/MS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Expertise in firmware engineering, RTL/FPGA concepts.
• Experience writing C/C++ for microcontrollers.
• Experience with space-grade hardware and test benches.

Responsibilities

• Lead and contribute to firmware architecture and implementation for space-based systems.

Job description

Title: Embedded S/W /Firmware Engineer

Term: Contract-Possible Perm

Start Date: ASAP

Location: Onsite VA

Responsibilities:

• Lead and contribute to firmware architecture and implementation for space-based systems
• Experience with Linux, scripting, Docker containers, and automation
• Perform end-to-end firmware development lifecycle:

• requirements analysis through design,
• coding, simulation,
• verification, and
• validation

• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to define interfaces, resolve design issues, and ensure seamless system integration
• Conduct lab-based debugging,

• hardware-in-the-loop testing, and
• system-level validation using diagnostic tools and protocols

• Apply high-reliability and space-grade techniques (e.g., fault tolerance, radiation mitigation) in a collaborative, team-oriented environment
• Contribute to documentation, design reviews, and risk identification throughout the product lifecycle

Skills:

• 7+ years relevant experience
• BS/MS in EE or equivalent
• Expertise with firmware engineering, VHDL (RTL), SystemVerilog (Testing)
• Experience developing code (C, C++) for microcontrollers
• Experience with Xilinx, Microchip, and Lattice
• Experience developing test benches and running simulations to exercise the design and to verify compliance
• Experience using schematics
• Experience in high-speed serial links: JESD204B/C, Ethernet, SpaceWire
• Experience in standard peripheral interfaces: SPI, I2C, UART, LVDS, etc.
• Experience with GitHub, CI/CD for FPGA flows, code reviews, automated linting, synthesis, regression testing, timing closure, bitstream generation, release tagging
• Experience in Python for build/testing automation and data analysis

Added Plus

• LIDAR Systems
• Expertise with Digital Signal Processing, precision timing, modems
• Experience developing Hi-Rel/Space programs and TMR coding
• Experience with VS Code
