Job summary

Tandem Diabetes Care is seeking a Sr. Field Study Test Associate I to support field studies across connected devices, mobile apps, and software-enabled workflows, ensuring study readiness and robust validation in real‑world use conditions.

You will work closely with Systems Test, Software Engineering, Product, Clinical, Quality, and Project Management teams to troubleshoot issues, document results, and help drive study success while maintaining HIPAA compliance at Tandem's San Diego, CA campus.

Qualifications

• High School diploma/GED, required.
• 3+ years of experience supporting clinical research, medical device testing, system testing, product validation, or related activities.
• 3+ years of experience in medical device testing, with understanding of experimental design and study protocol development.
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Clinical Research, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs software and systems testing to validate end-to-end product behavior across devices, mobile apps, and connected workflows in real-world use conditions.
• Conducts pre-study validation of systems, devices, materials, and workflows, including smoke testing, configuration verification, connectivity validation, and readiness assessments prior to participant use.
• Coordinates and executes software and systems-focused study activities throughout the study lifecycle, including setup, validation, execution, monitoring, data collection, and closeout.
• Collects and documents diagnostic information, system logs, and study observations to support issue investigation and resolution.
• Contributes to level-of-effort estimates and planning for new study requests.
• Collaborates with Systems Test, Software Engineering, Product, Clinical, Quality, and Project Management to troubleshoot issues and achieve study objectives.
• Assists in developing and executing study protocols evaluating functionality, usability, performance, and interoperability across hardware, software, mobile, and cloud interfaces.
• Supports validation of software releases, system updates, and integrated product workflows through structured field and usability testing.
• Maintains complete study documentation including plans, results, logs, records, and deviations.
• Identifies and escalates study-related issues and risks; partners with cross-functional teams for timely resolution.
• Prepares study status updates, reports, and presentations for stakeholders.
• Identifies opportunities for process improvements and refining study processes, tools, and best practices.
• Ensures compliance with Privacy/HIPAA and other regulatory requirements.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

A DAY IN THE LIFE:

The Sr. Field Study Test Associate I supports systems-focused field studies through hands‑on testing, technical troubleshooting, and issue investigation. The role helps ensure study readiness, system performance, and successful execution of studies involving connected devices, mobile applications, and software‑enabled workflows. Working closely with cross‑functional teams, this position supports the validation of integrated product systems in real‑world use conditions. Sr. Field Study Test Associates at Tandem are also responsible for:

• Performs software and systems testing to validate end‑to‑end product behavior across devices, mobile applications, and connected system workflows in real‑world use conditions.
• Conducts pre‑study validation of systems, devices, materials, and workflows, including smoke testing, configuration verification, connectivity validation, and readiness assessments prior to participant use and minimizing study risk.
• Coordinates and executes software and systems‑focused study activities throughout the study lifecycle, including study setup, system validation, execution, monitoring, issue investigation, data collection, and study closeout.
• Collects and documents diagnostic information, system logs, and study observations to support issue investigation and resolution.
• Contributes to level‑of‑effort estimates and planning activities for new study requests.
• Collaborates with Systems Test, Software Engineering, Product, Clinical, Quality, and Project Management teams to troubleshoot issues, support study execution, and achieve study objectives.
• Assists in the development and execution of study protocols that evaluate functionality, usability, performance, and interoperability across hardware, software, mobile, and cloud system interfaces.
• Supports validation of software releases, system updates, and integrated product workflows through structured field and usability testing activities.
• Maintains accurate and complete study documentation, including study plans, test results, issue logs, participant records, and protocol deviations.
• Identifies, investigates, and escalates study‑related issues, technical risks, system performance concerns, and protocol deviations; partners with cross‑functional teams to support timely resolution.
• Prepares study status updates, reports, and presentations to communicate progress, issues, and key findings to stakeholders.
• Identifies opportunities for process improvements and contributes to the development and refinement of study processes, tools, and best practices.
• Ensures compliance with company policies, including Privacy/HIPAA, and other legal and regulatory requirements.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

WHEN & WHERE YOU’LL WORK:

This role is on‑site five days a week at our High Bluff office due to the nature of the work involved.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

• Ability to independently execute study activities and drive tasks to completion with minimal supervision.
• Strong problem‑solving, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across cross‑functional teams.
• Strong documentation, organizational, and time‑management skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to adapt to new technologies and methodologies as they arise.
• High School diploma/GED, required.
• 3+ years of experience supporting clinical research, medical device testing, system testing, product validation, or related activities.
• 3+ years of experience in medical device testing, with a strong understanding of experimental design, study protocol development, and implementation.
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Clinical Research, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, preferred.
• Familiarity with Good Clinical Practice (GCP), human subject research requirements, and applicable regulatory guidelines preferred.
• Familiarity with Tandem device systems, research protocols, and software/system‑focused study activities preferred.

EXTRA AWESOME:

Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Clinical Research, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, preferred.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

The starting base pay range for this position is $32.00 - $40.00 per hour. Base pay will vary based on job‑related knowledge, skills, experience and may also fluctuate depending on candidate’s location and the overall job market. In addition to base pay, Tandem offers a competitive compensation package that includes bonus and a robust benefits package.
