Overview
The Construction Field Supervisor reports to the Utility Construction Manager and is engaged during the construction phase of projects for substations and transmission lines through final commissioning and closeout. Project scopes vary by project, and the role may differ accordingly.
Job Summary
The Construction Field Supervisor will be involved throughout the life cycle of a project from initiation to final commissioning and closeout, including on-site field visits, coordination with contractors, and ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.
Job Duties And Responsibilities
- Participate as a member of project teams to assist in developing project scope, cost estimate, and schedule
- Participate on on-site field/scope visits
- Assist in developing schedules including critical path
- Assist in developing detailed construction plans and identify outage requirements to implement new facilities
- Assist in developing construction contract bid packages; review responses and participate in vendor selection; attend pre-bid meeting with contractors
- Participate in design constructability reviews
- Develop a detailed construction plan, including outages, exact work dates, and construction resource requirements
- Ensure contractors are in compliance with Utility Company mandated safety training
- Coordinate with survey and soil boring crews as needed
- Ensure all necessary permits from ROW and/or Environmental groups are in place prior to the start of construction
- Participate in pre-construction/safety kickoff meetings to outline expectations for contractors
- Ensure contractor inventories all materials delivered to site and address deficiencies with contract design engineers
- Safety: tailboard conference attendance/review, JSA development/review, hazard analysis, monitor contractor safety training and performance
- Monitor and report theft or illegal activity; ensure contractor activities do not compromise system reliability
- Ensure expected quality is achieved by contractors in the field
- Ensure project work is maintainable by the Utility Grid Operations at project end
- Coordinate with Environmental groups and contractors on environmental concerns, spills, and storm water management
- Ensure SWMPP (substation work management project plan) is installed and maintained as designed
