Job summary

Texas Sterling is seeking a senior-level Roadway Estimator to support heavy civil projects across Texas, including concrete/asphalt paving, road widening and bridge work. You will prepare hard bid estimates, take-offs, and bid package documents for projects ranging from several million to tens of millions of dollars in San Antonio, Dallas–Fort Worth, and Houston.

Requirements include at least 4 years of roadway estimating experience, proficiency with Primavera/Viewpoint/HeavyBid/HeavyJob, and

Qualifications

• Minimum 4 years of heavy civil estimating experience involving concrete and asphalt paving, road widening, drainage lines, road reconstruction, bridge work, and roadway dirt work.
• Experience in hard bid estimating and take-offs (area, volume, quantities).
• Proficient in estimating software (Primavera, Viewpoint, Heavy Bid, Heavy Job) and general PM/office tools.
• TXDOT experience preferred; roadway estimating experience is required.
• Bottom-up estimating experience is required; self performing projects.

Responsibilities

• Review specifications and drawings, attend pre-bid meetings to determine scope and contents of estimates.
• Prepare estimates using quantity take-offs, material and labor costs, and equipment pricing.
• Research historical data and create bid package documents and guidelines.
• Maintain documentation and obtain supplier prices through direct contact and brochures.
• Create and manage subcontractor RFPs and evaluate design options based on cost and quality.
• Track awarded contracts and estimate additional work, change orders, and material procurement.

Job description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced senior-level Roadway Estimator to join our team at Texas Sterling! As an Estimator, you will be responsible for providing support in areas of roadway, heavy civil, and highway bridge projects. The estimating tasks will involve hard bid estimates for concrete and asphalt paving, road widening, drainage lines, road reconstruction, bridge work, and dirt work. This is a unique opportunity to work on projects ranging from $5 million to $30 million in the vibrant cities of San Antonio, Dallas-Fort Worth, and Houston.

Some of the essential duties and responsibilities include:

• Reviewing proposal specifications and drawings and attending pre-bid meetings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate
• Proficiently preparing estimates by calculating various statistical data such as quantity take-offs, material price lists, labor costs per man-hour, and equipment costs and applying them to the complete scope of work
• Reviewing/researching historical data (purchase orders, subcontracts, productivity analysis reports, etc.) and compiling summary reports to develop guidelines and precedence for future estimates
• Incorporating historical data into unit and man-hour figures
• Actively participating in developing bid package estimate documents
• Proficiently maintaining files of working documents for back-up to estimating figures, including current (accurate) information on prices from suppliers through direct contact, sales brochures, price lists, etc.
• Creating, sending, and managing subcontractor requests for proposal
• Reviewing design options and recommending the best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials
• Following awarded contracts as assigned – may include estimating extra work items, change orders, credits, procuring materials, etc.
• Performing other duties as directed

To qualify for this position, you must have:

• A minimum of 4 years of heavy civil, heavy highway estimating experience involving concrete and asphalt paving, road widening, drainage lines, road reconstruction, bridge work, and roadway dirt work.
• A minimum of 4 years of hard bid estimating
• A minimum of 4 years of experience in calculating area, volume, quantities, etc. in performing take-offs, control, and material pricing.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience in estimating & scheduling software (Primavera, Viewpoint, Heavy Bid, Heavy Job, etc.), Internet and Project Management software; Spreadsheet and Word Processing software.
• The ability to pass criminal and driving background checks
  
• Experience in HCSS Estimating software
• TXDOT experieince in preferred. MUST have roadway estimating experieince
