Job summary

SpaceX Memphis is seeking a Sr. Environmental Engineer (AI Supercomputer) to lead environmental compliance for the expanding AI infrastructure.

You will design and implement programs, ensure regulatory reporting, manage SWPPP/SPCC, and coordinate with federal/state agencies and engineers across the site. The role requires a strong background in air permitting, water and wastewater management, hazardous waste, and multi-site operations, with a proactive data-driven approach to meet deployment

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and improve environmental programs at SpaceX's Memphis-area facilities.
• Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (EPA, TDEC, Shelby County Health Department, etc.).
• Track and interpret new environmental laws and regulations; provide guidance to management.
• Perform environmental audits to ensure regulatory compliance.
• Operate and maintain the compliance calendar and tracking software.
• Maintain SWPPP, SPCC, air compliance, and hazardous materials/waste plans.
• Coordinate permitting and regulatory submittals; manage contractors for testing and permits.
• Assist EHS team with site compliance and planning for facility changes.
• Develop relationships with regulators and internal engineering teams.

SR. ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEER (AI SUPERCOMPUTER) - MEMPHIS

The Environmental Engineer will support the operations and continued expansion of SpaceX's large-scale AI infrastructure and supercomputing facilities in the Memphis area. This role is critical in ensuring environmental compliance while enabling rapid scaling of compute capacity to meet aggressive deployment timelines. The ideal candidate will serve as a subject matter expert to mitigate environmental risks, optimize resource use (especially water and energy), and maintain full regulatory compliance in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop, implement, and continuously improve environmental programs at SpaceX's Memphis-area facilities
• Maintain compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations established by the EPA, TDEC (Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation), Shelby County Health Department, and other relevant agencies
• Track, review, and interpret new and proposed environmental laws and regulations, and provide guidance to management
• Perform environmental audits to ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory agencies
• Operate and maintain the compliance calendar and other recordkeeping and environmental tracking software
• Maintain site operational compliance plans including the storm water pollution prevention plan (SWPPP) and spill prevention control and countermeasures plan (SPCC)
• Responsible for air compliance, recordkeeping and reporting requirements established for permitted sources defined by the local regulatory agencies
• Maintain the site’s hazardous materials business plan including updates and regulatory submittals
• Maintain the site’s industrial wastewater discharge permit including updates and regulatory submittals
• Responsible for hazardous waste compliance and regulatory reportingCoordinate and manage contractors for permitting and environmental testing. Review and maintain reports and other relevant records from assessments and permitting activities
• Assist the Environmental Health and Safety team with site operational compliance as needed
• Assist in planning for changes in physical facilities, reviewing new or modified equipment and new manufacturing programs to meet regulatory and permitting requirements
• Develop and maintain positive relationships with federal, state, and county regulators
• Develop and maintain positive and close working relationships with engineering teams across the site

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree
• 5+ years of professional experience in the design, development, and execution of environmental and regulatory compliance programs
• Experience working multi-site operations

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering with an emphasis in environmental engineering
• Experience in environmental field with 6+ years of environmental and regulatory compliance in a dynamic manufacturing environment
• Strong knowledge of Tennessee and federal environmental regulations, particularly air permitting (including combustion turbines and stationary sources), water usage and wastewater, stormwater management, and hazardous waste
• Hands‑on experience with SWPPPs, Best Management Practices (BMPs), industrial wastewater permitting, and SPCC plans
• Strong written and verbal communication skills. Experience handling highly technical data and technical data interpretation
• Track record of successful analysis, interpretation, and application of rules and regulations towards practical solution
• Able to work well in an integrated collaborative team environment, including frequent interactions with other engineers, managers, federal, state and county agencies
• Ability to handle many projects at once, prioritize work, and work efficiently
• Ability to work independently and respond at short notice
• Highly self‑motivated and able to prioritize and execute tasks in a high‑pressure environment with ongoing drive for continuous improvement in all aspects of work

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• This is an on‑site position based in Memphis, TN. Relocation support is available for candidates not already local
• Position occasionally requires the ability to work extended hours and weekends when needed
