Job description

We are the movers of the world and the makers of the future. We get up every day, roll up our sleeves and build a better world — together. At Ford, we’re all a part of something bigger than ourselves. Are you ready to change the way the world moves?

Enterprise Technology plays a critical part in shaping the future of mobility. If you’re looking for the chance to leverage advanced technology to redefine the transportation landscape, enhance the customer experience and improve people’s lives, this is the opportunity for you. Join us and challenge your IT expertise and analytical skills to help create vehicles that are as smart as you are.

This role demands a leader who can navigate complex technical challenges, influence broadly, and ensure our technology stack is a competitive differentiator for Ford Pro Integrated Services. Candidates who are in commuting distance to a Ford hub location may be required to be onsite 4 or more days per week.

Responsibilities
What you'll do...
Defining & Driving Technical Strategy:
  • Develop and articulate a clear, long-term technical vision and architectural roadmap for Ford Pro's core fleet management platform, aligning with business objectives and product roadmaps.
  • Lead the technical planning and execution for critical initiatives including the development and deployment of micro frontend architectures, unification of disparate frontend experiences, and the strategic re-build of existing backend fleet management functionality.
Architectural Leadership & Governance:
  • Serve as the primary technical authority for complex system architecture, ensuring solutions are scalable, reliable, secure, maintainable, and cost-efficient for a global, customer-facing product.
  • Establish and enforce architectural best practices, design patterns, and coding standards, guiding engineering teams through complex technical decisions and trade-offs.
  • Drive the reduction of technical debt and continuously improve system performance, stability, and resilience.
Scalability & Integration Enablement:
  • Architect and oversee the implementation of solutions that enable massive growth, transitioning internal tools to a multi-tenant, highly available external product capable of supporting millions of connected vehicles and diverse customer fleets.
  • Lead the strategy and execution for robust, secure, and scalable integrations with strategic partner software systems, defining API strategies and optimal integration patterns.
Technical Team Leadership & Mentorship:
  • Provide hands‑on technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship to engineering teams, fostering a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Champion best practices in software development, including CI/CD, automated testing, observability, and operational excellence.
  • Identify and cultivate technical talent, guiding individual engineers in their growth and skill development.
Data & Analytics Enablement:
  • Partner with data engineering and analytics teams to ensure the platform architecture supports scalable telemetry ingestion, reporting, and data-driven product decisions.
  • Guide architectural decisions that make fleet and connected vehicle data reliably available for downstream analytics and customer‑facing insights, without directly owning the data platform itself.
  • Collaborate with data and product teams to ensure data governance, quality, and privacy considerations are reflected in architectural designs for a multi‑tenant, customer‑facing product.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration:
  • Partner closely with Product Management, Design, and other engineering leaders to translate business requirements into technical specifications and architectural designs.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts, decisions, and progress effectively to executive leadership and non‑technical stakeholders.
Qualifications
You’ll have...
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
Experience
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in software engineering, with at least 3+ years in a lead architecture or engineering management role focused on large-scale distributed systems.
    • Proven track record of designing, building, and scaling complex, high-performance, highly available software platforms in a cloud-native environment (Azure, AWS, GCP).
    • Demonstrated expertise in modern architectural patterns, including microservices, event‑driven architectures, and API design principles.
    • Significant experience with frontend architectural patterns, specifically micro frontends, and their implementation for large-scale, unified user experiences.
    • Deep understanding of data modeling, database technologies (relational and NoSQL), and data migration strategies for complex systems.
    • Prior experience transitioning internal tools or platforms to external‑facing, multi‑tenant products is highly desirable.
    • Experience with strategic partner integrations, including defining robust API strategies and managing external technical dependencies.
    • Exposure to data platforms or analytics architecture (for example, partnering with data engineering teams on pipelines, telemetry, or reporting infrastructure) is a plus, but not required.
Technical Skills
  • Strong expertise (5+ years preferred) designing and building complex single‑page applications and user interfaces using React, Next.js, and similar frameworks.
  • Proficiency in one or more modern programming languages such as Java, Python, or Go, and related frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Expertise in designing for security, observability, and operational excellence.
  • Familiarity with data platform concepts, such as streaming/event platforms and cloud data warehouses, sufficient to collaborate effectively with data engineering partners.
Leadership & People Skills
  • Exceptional strategic thinking and problem‑solving abilities, with the capacity to translate complex business challenges into clear technical solutions.
  • Outstanding communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and build consensus across all levels of the organization.
  • Proven ability to mentor and develop senior engineering talent.
  • Pragmatic approach to architecture, balancing innovation with practical implementation constraints and business needs.
Even better, you may have...
  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering or related field
  • Hands‑on experience with data platform technologies (e.g., Kafka/Event Hub, BigQuery,or equivalent cloud-native data services)
  • Experience with analytics/BI enablement, such as data modeling for reporting or exposing data via APIs for dashboards
  • Experience with machine learning/predictive analytics integration (e.g., predictive maintenance, fleet utilization forecasting) within a product architecture
  • Background partnering with data science teams to productionize models within a microservices/event‑driven architecture
