Job summary

Iteris is seeking a Sr. Engineer in Los Angeles to join a team applying transportation planning and engineering techniques for thriving communities.

You will work with Iteris management and staff as well as state, regional, and local agencies on diverse planning projects to improve our communities. The role emphasizes managing complex projects from inception to completion, mentoring junior staff, coordinating multidisciplinary teams, and presenting findings to councils and boards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in transportation planning, civil engineering, urban and regional planning, transportation engineering or a closely related field
• Minimum of 6-8 years of consulting and/or public sector experience in the transportation planning field
• Excellent communication skills including writing and presentation skills
• Knowledge of recent developments in transportation planning and associated trends in the discipline
• Awareness of current transportation trends and issues such as multi-modal level of service analysis and bicycle and pedestrian plans desired
• Professional Engineer (PE) or Traffic Engineer (TE) licensure, Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification, Professional Transportation Planner (PTP) or certification from the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) desired
• Familiar with tools such as TransCAD, Synchro, Sim Traffic, VISSIM, GIS, AutoCAD, MicroStation, etc.
• Proficient in MS Office

Responsibilities

• Manage complex transportation projects from inception to completion.
• Track project budgets, schedules, and scopes of work using project management software to ensure profitability and timely delivery for public sector contracts.
• Direct and mentor junior staff by assigning tasks, reviewing technical work, and guiding their professional development.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams.
• Lead the preparation of long-range transportation plans, such as General Plan Circulation Elements, Active Transportation Plans (ATP), Complete Streets plans, and Vision Zero/systemic safety plans.
• Lead Senate Bill (SB) 743 compliance evaluations by managing Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMT) assessments, establishing thresholds, and developing local VMT mitigation frameworks.
• Manage the transportation components of CEQA/NEPA documents for major regional infrastructure improvements.
• Analyze multimodal transportation data, including traffic counts, collision records, transit ridership, and emerging mobility data to develop data-driven recommendations.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for public agency clients.
• Present technical findings and project updates clearly to City Councils, Planning Commissions, and regional agency boards.
• Support the design and facilitation of public outreach programs, ensuring meaningful community engagement.
• Identify and track upcoming public sector Requests for Proposals (RFPs) (and other solicitations).
• Lead the preparation of competitive proposals, including defining scopes of work, estimating staffing hours, and building project budgets.
• Participate in interview presentations to secure new contract wins.
• Local travel will be required for project-related tasks and client meetings

Iteris anticipates paying a base salary between $131,300 and $146,200 for this role. Actual pay offered may be below or above these amounts, depending on the individual’s job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
