Job summary

Zachry Group in Downers Grove, IL, seeks an experienced Senior Engineer Mechanical to lead mechanical design on power, refining and chemical projects. You will mentor engineers, supervise a small team, manage budgets and schedules, and review vendor documents.

Requirements include a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and 15+ years of relevant experience, with strong communication and willingness to travel. PE license preferred and growth opportunities available.

  • Experience applying standard engineering techniques with design basis, safety, and environmental regulations.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as a Mechanical Lead or Mechanical Technical Specialist on Power, and Energy and Chemical Industry Projects.
  • Manage Project Schedules and Budgets as well as provide weekly reports to communicate project status, issues, and needs.
  • Specify, evaluate bids, and perform vendor document review for process equipment such as pressure vessels, tanks, pumps, and heat exchangers.
  • Perform calculations for equipment and piping.
  • Specify Materials for process and utility piping services.
  • Attend client, vendor, and internal team project meetings.
  • Perform field surveys to collect required field data and assist with interpretation of engineering drawings and specifications in the field.
  • Capable of supervising, coordinating, and reviewing work of a small staff of engineers to accomplish objectives.
  • Mentors younger engineers, leading by example. Supports department development initiatives and standards creation/review/update.
  • Evaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria, using judgment in making adaptations and modifications.
  • Estimate resource requirements of new project proposals in support of business development.
  • Other duties, as assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field.
  • 15+ years of experience working as a Mechanical Engineer in the Power, Refining, or Chemical Industries.
  • Experience applying standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to ensure compliance with design basis, and safety and environmental regulations.
  • Strong communication and inter-personal skills are required for coordination with internal team members as well as Vendors and Clients.
  • Willingness to learn and work on a variety of tasks within multiple industries.
  • Willingness to travel and work in office and field environments.
  • Strong desire for continuous improvement and career growth.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineers License
Salary/Pay Rate

In accordance with Illinois Equal Pay Act, the expected salary range for this Illinois position, Senior Engineer Mechanical, is between $148,000.00 and $211,827.20 annually. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience, geographic location, and other job-related factors as permitted by law.
