Job summary

Alps Alpine NA, Inc. is seeking a senior mechanical design engineer to create 3D models and drawings, analyze feasibility, and collaborate across electrical, software, and mechanical teams. The role emphasizes delivering validated designs and detailed documentation for complex automotive systems.

You will contribute to testing, certification support, and continuous improvement, while maintaining high confidentiality on sensitive programs and interacting with customers during design reviews.

Qualifications

  • BS in mechanical engineering; master’s preferred and equivalent acceptable.
  • 8+ years in mechanical design, especially electro-mechanical automotive systems.
  • Proficiency in NX or CATIA and simulation tools like ANSYS or MATLAB.
  • Strong understanding of electrical principles in mechanical systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving and teamwork abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Create detailed 3D models and engineering drawings using CAD software (NX, CATIA).
  • Analyze 3D models and drawings for engineering feasibility.
  • Collaborate with electrical engineers, software developers and others to integrate systems.
  • Conduct analyses and simulations to validate designs and optimize performance.
  • Produce documentation including design specs, DFMEA, test plans and technical reports.
  • Test and troubleshoot prototypes and final products for reliability.
  • Develop and present Technical Design Review materials to customers during quoting.
  • Support certification and compliance with customer quality systems (TISAX, TS16949, IATF).
  • Handle confidentiality across Product Development, Legal, HR, IT and exec management.

Job description

Essential Functions
  • Responsible for creating detailed 3D models and engineering drawings using CAD software (e.g., NX, CATIA, SolidWorks).
  • Responsible for analyzing 3D models and engineering drawings from other sources for engineering feasibility.
  • Responsible for collaborating with electrical engineers, software developers, and other stakeholders to integrate mechanical and electrical systems seamlessly.
  • Responsible for conducting detailed analysis and simulations to validate design concepts and optimize performance.
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining detailed documentation, including design specifications, DFMEA's, open issues lists, test plans, and technical reports.
  • Responsible for performing testing and troubleshooting of prototypes and final products to ensure functionality and reliability.
  • Responsible for developing, reviewing, and presenting Technical Design Review materials to customers during the program quoting phase.
  • Provide support toward the certification and ensure compliance with customer-required quality management systems (TISAX, TS16949, IATF, etc.).
  • Positions that fall under the functions of Product Development, Legal, HR, IT, and Executive Management are required to exercise a higher level of confidentiality and discretion in handling information the positions have access to.
Non-essential Functions
  • Prepare sample parts for appearance reviews with customers.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in electro-mechanical engineering and incorporate new technologies and methodologies into designs.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE AND/OR TRAINING

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering (master's degree preferred), or approved equivalent.
  • 8+ years of proven experience in mechanical design, particularly in electro-mechanical automotive systems.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., NX, CATIA) and simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, MATLAB).
  • Strong understanding of electrical principles and their application in mechanical systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS
  • Valid U.S. driver's license required

  • General office equipment including but not limited to: computer, printer, photocopier, shredder, telephone, fax machines and or calculators, as well as office phone and cell phone.
