Job summary

Xcel Energy is seeking an experienced engineer to serve as a senior staff advisor, providing extensive technical expertise and coordinating across projects and programs. You will lead multiple projects, guide technical decisions, and contribute to documentation, design, testing, and commissioning efforts.

  • Role requires on‑call duties for some responsibilities.
  • Role is eligible for a hybrid work schedule.

Job description

Position Summary

Applies extensive technical expertise and has full knowledge of related disciplines. Performs as a staff advisor and consultant in a technical specialty, a type of facility or equipment, or a program function. Carries out complex or innovative assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures. Represents the organization as the prime technical contact on contracts and projects, interacts with senior external personnel on significant technical matters, and coordinates between organizations. Work is performed without appreciable direction and with considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of the assignment.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Apply extensive technical expertise and understand the basics of related disciplines.
  • Lead projects of moderate to large size, scope, and complexity by applying technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques.
  • Develop new or improved techniques, procedures, and standards, and support the creation of technical documentation such as designs, testing, calculations, reports, and standards.
  • Exercise considerable latitude in determining ongoing technical support for project activities within areas such as Operations, Maintenance, Testing/diagnostics, and Regulatory.
  • Provide field engineering oversight and direction for activities including support, testing, installation, inspections, and commissioning.
  • Coordinate and lead multiple projects or portions of projects, including research, design, equipment selection, procurement, installation, and commissioning phases.
  • Represent the organization as the prime technical contact in bid/evaluation processes, preparing bid documents and completing technical evaluations for proposals.
  • Interact with senior external personnel on significant technical matters, coordinating with internal and external organizations.
  • Effectively resolve difficult technical or business matters both inter‑organizationally and with external customers or vendors.
  • Assign tasks to and possibly direct engineers, technicians, craft personnel, and other support staff, while mentoring less experienced engineers.
  • Lead activities such as budgeting, estimating, forecasting, accounting, and work order management in support of engineering projects.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited curriculum (or recognized equivalency).
  • 5+ years of relevant engineering experience; Engineer in Training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification required.
  • Demonstrated unique technical skills and core competencies for this engineering level, established & documented by the organization.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration may be required depending on business need.
  • Role requires on‑call duties for some responsibilities.
  • Role is eligible for a hybrid work schedule.
Salary

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is $92,300.00 to $123,033.00 per year.
