Job summary

AeroVironment, based in California, seeks experienced electrical engineers to design high-speed digital and analog electronics for space applications. You will work on ADC/DAC, FPGA, processors, and communication drivers, supporting product development and R&D. Proficiency in Altium, SPICE, MATLAB, Simulink, and HyperLynx is required. U.S. citizenship is mandatory; ITAR/EAR compliance applies.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering with 8 years’ experience or a bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 10 years’ experience in design, analysis, integration, and test of custom electronics.
  • Must be a US citizen.
  • Experience designing high speed digital electronics including ADCs, DACs, FPGAs, processors, and communications drivers.
  • Experience designing and conducting analysis of analog circuits including low-noise signal conditioning and power amplifiers.
  • Proficiency in electrical design software and simulation tools (such as Altium, SPICE, MATLAB, Simulink, HyperLynx, and MS Office).
  • Ability to conduct circuit analysis and simulation to optimize performance and reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Design custom high speed digital electronics including the use of ADCs, DACs, FPGAs, processors, and communications drivers.
  • Design, and conduct analysis of analog circuits including low-noise signal conditioning and power amplifiers.
  • Provide expertise to both product development and R&D efforts.
  • Collaborate with peers, leads, and managers to develop, review, and refine designs and analyses to meet program technical needs within defined time and budget constraints.
  • Work within a broad-disciplined program team providing expertise in support of electronics manufacturing and testing.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Must be a US citizen.
  • Experience designing high speed digital electronics including the use of ADCs, DACs, FPGAs, processors, and communications drivers.
  • Experience designing and conducting analysis of analog circuits including low-noise signal conditioning and power amplifiers.
  • Proficiency in electrical design software and simulation tools (such as Altium, SPICE, MATLAB, Simulink, HyperLynx, and MS Office).
  • Ability to conduct circuit analysis and simulation to optimize performance and reliability.
Desired Qualifications
  • Understanding of space qualification standards and requirements.
  • Experience designing custom electronics for space products.
  • Experience designing to a defined requirements set.
  • Experience with analysis necessary for high reliability space electronics hardware (Electrical stress analysis, worst case circuit analysis and reliability analysis).
  • Experience and understanding of PCB manufacturing and assembly processes.
  • Experience producing board layouts is a plus.
  • Understanding of relevant IPC standards needed for electrical design and fabrication.
  • Experience leading sub-assemblies or circuit card designs with small teams of two or three.
  • Experience developing and conducting testing of complex electronic sub-assemblies along with design of special test equipment (STE).
  • Experience deriving sub-assembly requirements from higher-level, flowed down, system requirements and defining test methodologies.
  • Experience developing design and verification documentation (Interface Control Document/Drawings (ICD), Design Description Document (DDD), Test Plan, Test Procedures, Test Reports, etc.).
  • Written and verbal communication skills necessary to present designs to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Able to complete assigned work within a defined timeline and budget.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to work in an office and production environment (Constant).
  • Required to sit and stand for long periods; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard (Frequent).
