The role requires directing and supporting development of comprehensive safety and IH programs, ensuring OSHA compliance, providing training, and guiding injury prevention efforts across manufacturing teams. Ideal candidates will have 10–15 years in safety/environmental roles within heavy manufacturing, CSP or CIH preferred, with strong leadership, communication, and regulatory interface

Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, direct and support development of PCC’s safety and industrial hygiene programs.
  • Provide programmatic direction for the plant’s safety initiatives and OSHA compliance.
  • Support and develop PCC’s injury/incident prevention program and reduce injury frequency and workers’ compensation costs.
  • Make data-driven recommendations to improve programs and act as safety advisor to plant leadership.

Job description

Position is a leadership role with strategic and tactical responsibility. Position requires a hands-on manager who is willing to maintain a high level of visibility with PCC’s management team and manufacturing and fabrication teams. Selected candidate is expected to lead, manage, direct and support development of PCC’s safety and industrial hygiene programs as well as provide programmatic direction for the plant. This position will provide support and guidance for PCC manufacturing operations in the following areas:

  • New Equipment Review and Approval
  • OSHA compliance
  • Safety training
  • Identification, evaluation and control of industrial hygiene exposures
  • Ergonomics
  • Emergency Response
  • Injury / incident prevention and analysis
  • May be required to handle hazardous waste
  • May be required to complete hazardous waste management training
  • May be required to complete Emergency Coordinator Training

The selected candidate will be responsible for supporting and developing PCC’s industrial safety compliance programs as well as developing an effective injury / incident prevention program, which demonstrates a reduction in injury frequency and severity and a corresponding decrease in workers’ compensation costs.

Position will make recommendations on improvements to programs with data to substantiate the recommendations and will be seen as a safety advisor to the plant’s leadership team.

Requisite Skills:

Selected candidate will require strong management, interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills. Ability to effectively develop and communicate PCC’s safety program and vision throughout the organization. Ability to develop and deliver safety training programs and experience in developing business plans. Familiarity with, and ability to negotiate and interface effectively, on PCC’s behalf, with outside regulatory agencies. This position also requires strong assessment and writing skills.

Background:

Ten to fifteen years of progressive safety, environmental or industrial hygiene experience in a heavy manufacturing setting or as a safety and loss control consultant for a casualty insurer or major insurance broker.

Experience with leading and managing safety programs as well as management of a safety team.

Educational Background:

Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Safety, Industrial Hygiene or Environmental Engineering required, masters preferred. Bachelor or Masters in Chemistry, Biology, Public Health or Engineering acceptable with appropriate workplace experience.

CSP or CIH preferred. Candidates who have passed first exams for CSP or CIH certifications also acceptable.
