Sr. Distinguished Engineer, Front End (Angular) at Capital One
As a Sr. Distinguished Engineer, you will be part of a community of technical experts working to define the future of banking in the cloud. You will collaborate with developers, machine learning experts, product managers, and people leaders to drive innovation, optimize business outcomes, and deliver strong technical solutions.
You will foster a culture of engineering excellence, balance technical expertise with inclusivity, and help build next‑generation talent by mentoring and actively recruiting within the organization.
Distinguished Engineers lead through technical contribution, acting as trusted advisors for key technologies and platforms. You will produce clear communications, code samples, blog posts, and other material to share knowledge across the enterprise.
In this role, you will work with the Client Platforms team to define and drive the technical vision for Capital One’s web platform ecosystem. You will lead architecture and standards for AI‑native web delivery, guide platform migrations, and establish engineering practices to elevate developer experience across hundreds of contributing engineers enterprise‑wide.

- Define and drive the technical vision for Capital One’s web platform domain, spanning authenticated servicing, marketing/acquisition, and design system capabilities
- Lead architectural decisions for large‑scale platform integrations and migrations, ensuring long‑term platform health while meeting delivery commitments
- Establish AI‑native development standards and practices for web platforms, including agentic tooling, machine‑consumable architecture, and AI‑assisted delivery workflows
- Drive measurable improvements in developer experience and platform NPS across enterprise inner‑source contributors
- Partner with product, design, and engineering leadership to align technical strategy with business priorities across lines of business
- Bachelor’s Degree
- At least 9 years of experience in enterprise architecture and design patterns for front‑end technologies such as Angular and React
- At least 9 years of software engineering, solution architecture, and software specialization experience
- At least 7 years of experience in cloud computing (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud)
- At least 7 years of experience in web technologies (JavaScript, TypeScript, SPA frameworks)
- Experience with the full ML development lifecycle using AI and ML frameworks
- Designing and building distributed HPC and ML systems
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field
- 10+ years of experience in software engineering and solution architecture
- 10+ years of professional experience coding in languages such as Java, Python, Go, JavaScript/TypeScript, Swift
- 10+ years of experience covering the full lifecycle of system development, from conception through architecture, implementation, testing, deployment, and production support
- Experience leading technical strategy for large‑scale web platforms serving millions of users
- Deep expertise in modern web frameworks (React, Angular), design systems, web performance, and accessibility
- Experience defining and driving engineering standards across distributed, inner‑source contributor models
- Familiarity with AI‑native development patterns, agentic tooling, or ML‑assisted software delivery

Salary ranges by location:
McLean, VA: $314,800 – $359,300 (Sr Distinguished Engineer)
New York, NY: $343,400 – $392,000 (Sr Distinguished Engineer)
This role is also eligible to earn performance‑based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonuses and/or long‑term incentives (LTI). Incentives may be discretionary or nondiscretionary depending on the plan.
