Job summary

Elsevier Health Education seeks a collaborative technology leader to safeguard psychological safety of reports and accelerate delivery across nursing and medical education product lines.

You will lead distributed teams, drive modern architecture, AI-enabled capabilities, and partner with product, data, and security teams to align technology with strategic objectives.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to build and lead high-performing, cross-functional teams.
  • Experience in healthcare or education technology or another regulated, data-sensitive domain.
  • Fluency with AI-assisted development (e.g. Claude Code, Copilot) and how to adopt it responsibly.
  • Familiarity with data governance frameworks in a compliance-heavy environment.
  • Extensive technical judgment—can go deep on architecture, then zoom out to strategy.
  • Experience partnering with Product and UX to deliver customer-facing outcomes across diff time zones.

Responsibilities

  • Lead multiple technology teams across Elsevier Health Education, under Health Markets, responsible for design, development, delivery, and operation of scalable software solutions.
  • Provide technical and organizational leadership across product and engineering domains, driving execution and modernization.
  • Partner with product, architecture, data, quality, and business stakeholders to align technology investments with priorities.
  • Develop and execute multi-year technology roadmaps aligned with strategic objectives.
  • Drive cloud modernization, API-first architecture, and AI-enabled product capabilities.
  • Establish engineering standards, architecture governance, security, scalability, and operational best practices.

About the role

Driven technology leader entrusted with maintaining the psychological safety of both direct and indirect reports. Entrusted with the speed to delivery for multiple products within our Nursing Health Education suite of products.

About the team

This is within our strategic healthcare businesses focused on preparing nursing students, supporting nursing faculty, and helping healthcare organizations develop and retain nurses. It sits within Elsevier's broader Health division and has become an increasingly important growth area as nursing shortages and AI-enabled education reshape healthcare.

Responsibilities
  • Leading multiple technology teams across Elsevier Health Education, under Health Markets responsible for the design, development, delivery, and operation of scalable software solutions supporting strategic business objectives of building innovation products for Nursing and Medical Education.
  • Providing technical and organizational leadership across product and engineering domains, driving execution, operational excellence, modernization, and continuous improvement.
  • Partnering closely with product, architecture, data, quality, and business stakeholders to align technology investments with business priorities while fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and talent development.
  • Developing and executing multi-year technology roadmaps aligned with Elsevier Health Education’s strategic objectives.
  • Driving cloud modernization, platform consolidation, API-first architecture, and AI-enabled product capabilities across Nursing and Medical Education platforms.
  • Establishing engineering standards, architecture governance, security, scalability, and operational best practices across multiple teams.
  • Evaluating emerging technologies, including Generative AI and machine learning, to improve learning experiences and accelerate product innovation.
  • Building, mentoring, and leading high-performing engineering managers and technical leaders across geographically distributed teams.
  • Creating a culture focused on engineering excellence, innovation, accountability, continuous learning, and inclusion.
  • Driving workforce planning, succession planning, organizational design, and leadership development.
Requirements

U.S. National Base Pay Range: $156,700 - $290,900. Geographic differentials may apply in some locations to better reflect local market rates. This job is eligible for an annual incentive bonus.
