Job summary

Qualifications

  • 15 years of experience in operations, site leadership, facilities management or site services management (heavy manufacturing, aerospace preferred).
  • Travel Required: 10% Domestic and International.
  • Eligibility: Must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Direct day-to-day facility responsibilities for the Final Assembly Line (FAL), ensuring operational readiness across the site.
  • Manage building systems, emergency services, security and fire protection.
  • Oversee Industrial Maintenance and Contracts Management, plus Tool Management and related support services.
  • Lead Capital Project initiatives and drive continuous improvement across shared services.
  • Coordinate with international directors and local authorities to ensure regulatory alignment and successful project execution.

Airbus U.S. Manufacturing is seeking a Senior Director Site Services to lead, optimize, and scale physical infrastructure and support operations across our Mobile, Alabama manufacturing site.

Position Summary

Responsible for Site Services activities at the Mobile Manufacturing site to ensure the optimal functioning and reliability of all physical infrastructure. This includes managing building systems, directing Industrial Maintenance and Contracts Management, and overseeing Tool Management, Aircraft Painting, Fueling Operations, Security Services, Fire Protection, Support Shops, and Site Master Planning activities, while providing comprehensive operational oversight across the entire Final Assembly Line facility.

On 'Airbus Way' you will find the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing Facility for commercial aircraft. Opened at the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley in 2015, the facility produces A320 Family aircraft and added a second product line for the A220 in 2019. Your Challenges
Key Responsibilities
Operations & Facility Infrastructure
  • Daily Site Operations: Direct day-to-day facility responsibilities for the Final Assembly Line (FAL), ensuring the optimal operational readiness of approximately 3 million square feet of buildings across the 230 acre site. Ensure facility maintains the highest standards of cleanliness and readiness in both office, industrial and people environments.
  • Building Systems & Emergency Services: Manage critical site infrastructure, including medical systems, elevators, and plant utilities. Provide comprehensive leadership and oversight for site Security Services and Fire Protection.
  • Industrial Maintenance & Specialized Support: Oversee integrated Industrial Maintenance and Contracts Management, while directing specialized plant services including Battery Charging stations and Fleet Management for the site. Ensure industrial equipment maintains Industrial availability at industry benchmarks.
Industrial Readiness & Technical Shops
  • Production Support Shops: Direct and optimize operations across all core support shops, ensuring high-quality execution in Composite Repair, Metal Machining, and Aircraft Painting.
  • Tooling & Calibration: Maintain total accountability for plant Tool Management, including strict adherence to tool calibration protocols, control standards, and rate readiness support.
Strategic Project Management & Business Improvement
  • Capital Project Leadership: Act as the local Site Project Manager and Lead for major infrastructure and engineering projects (e.g., FAL A320 development). Oversee the concept design, implementation planning, and execution phases to hit technical, economic, and scheduling targets.
  • Continuous & Business Improvement: Drive a culture of continuous improvement, adaptability, and high standards. Lead structured Business Improvement initiatives to optimize processes, eliminate waste, and elevate overall performance of shared services.
  • Dual-Matrix Coordination: Manage temporary dual-reporting matrix structures during active project phases, acting as the primary coordination link for modifications and change requests between regional production and international directors.
External Relations & Stakeholder Interfacing
  • Aviation & Utility Liaison: Act as the primary site interface with the Mobile Airport Authority to ensure seamless operational alignment, and coordinate directly with local public utilities services to secure reliable infrastructure support.
  • Civic & Government Relations: In coordination with Airbus GR & Comms, Build and maintain strategic relationships with City and County public service directors to ensure regulatory alignment, community integration, and swift resolution of municipal infrastructure matters.
Financial, Compliance & Safety Management
  • Budget Accountability: Plan, manage, and review the facilities budget, ensuring both Capex and Opex targets are met and aligned with broader business objectives.
  • Vendor & Contractor Management: Provide daily oversight for external vendors and suppliers, identifying required training, tracking performance, and managing service level agreements.
  • Compliance & Sustainability: Ensure all site processes meet legally required employment, health, safety, and environmental standards. Serve as the strategic sustainability interface, championing workplace safety initiatives and driving environmental projects.
People Leadership & Stakeholder Management
  • Global Collaboration: Manage critical "long-distance" relationships across international functions, including back-office support, logistics hubs, worldwide manufacturing units, and global suppliers.
  • Team Development & Performance: Lead, coach, and develop a diverse workforce of American and European employees. Manage performance standards through KPI monitoring and proactive process optimization.
Operations & Facility Infrastructure
  • Daily Site Operations: Direct day-to-day facility responsibilities for the Final Assembly Line (FAL), ensuring the optimal operational readiness of approximately 1 million square feet of buildings across the 118-acre site.
  • Building Systems & Emergency Services: Manage critical site infrastructure, including medical systems, elevators, and plant utilities. Provide comprehensive leadership and oversight for site Security Services and Fire Protection.
  • Industrial Maintenance & Specialized Support: Oversee integrated Industrial Maintenance and Contracts Management, while directing specialized plant services including Battery Charging stations and Fleet Management for the Final Assembly Line site.

Qualified Experience / Skills / Training
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management, Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Experience: 15 years of experience in operations, site leadership, facilities management or site services management within a heavy manufacturing, automotive, or aerospace environment (highly preferred).
  • Technical Systems Proficiency: Facility and Site Infrastructure, Project Management.
  • Travel Required: 10% Domestic and International.
  • Eligibility: Must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.
Physical Requirements
  • Vision: able to see and read computer screen and other electronic equipment with screens, able to read documents, reports and engineering drawings.
  • Hearing: able to hear to participate in conversations in person and via teleconference or phone and to hear sounds on production floor including safety warnings or alarms.
  • Speaking: able to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information and participate in communications.
  • Equipment Operation (personal computer, telephone, copies, fax machine, and related office equipment and using electronic identification card to enter building floors and internal doors): able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment and some tools including production tools such as hydraulic lifts.
  • Carrying: able to carry documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.
  • Lifting: able to lift documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.
  • Pushing / Pulling: able to push and pull small office furniture and some equipment and tools.
  • Sitting: able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on computer.
  • Squatting / Kneeling: able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving.
  • Standing: able to stand for discussions in offices or on production floor.
  • Travel: able to travel independently and at short notice.
  • Walking (include routine walking such as to a shared printer to retrieve documents): able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces.
  • Personal Protective Equipment required: Required PPE includes, but is not limited to Administrative position only PPE required
