Job summary

Akron Children's Hospital is seeking a Sr Director of the PMO to provide enterprise leadership for the organization’s portfolio of strategic, technology, clinical, and business transformation initiatives. You will establish and operate an enterprise PMO to ensure initiatives are aligned, prioritized, governed, resourced, financially managed, and delivered with measurable outcomes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; Master's preferred.
• Minimum of ten (10) years' experience in Information Services/Information Technology.
• Minimum of ten (10) years' supervisory/management experience.
• Certification such as PMP or CPHIMSS preferred.

Responsibilities

• Establish and lead an enterprise project and portfolio management framework.
• Develop portfolio prioritization methodologies based on strategic value, patient impact, financial return, risk, regulatory requirements, and capacity.
• Provide executive leadership with a consolidated view of project status, risks, costs, and portfolio performance.
• Identify competing initiatives and resource constraints; facilitate executive-level decisions.
• Provide PMO governance for AI and digital transformation initiatives with clear recommendations.
• Lead governance and delivery of large-scale implementations (ERP, EHR optimization, AI, infrastructure, cybersecurity).
• Monitor ROI, benefits realization, and total cost of ownership to ensure measurable outcomes.
• Develop and manage project portfolio budgets and forecasts.
• Determine use of internal resources, consultants, vendors, and implementation partners.
• Meet with manufacturers, vendors, and professional organizations to solicit cooperation and resolve problems.
• Lead and develop PMO managers; foster accountability, transparency, and collaboration.

Summary:

The Sr Director of the Project Management office (PMO) provides enterprise leadership for the organization's portfolio of strategic, technology, clinical, operational, and business transformation initiatives. The Sr. Director is responsible for establishing and operating an enterprise PMO that ensures major initiatives are strategically aligned, appropriately prioritized, governed, resources, financially managed, and delivered with measurable outcomes. The Sr Director serves as a strategic partner to the CDIO, CEO council, leadership team, clinical leadership, and business leaders, providing transparency into the organization's project portfolio, ISD budget, and strategic initiatives projects . The Sr. Director partners with leadership throughout the organization to constantly promote and develop an ISD culture in support of the Hospital Mission, Vision, and Values.

Responsibilities:

1. Establish and lead an enterprise project and portfolio management framework, maintaining an enterprise-wide portfolio of strategic initiatives and investments.

2. Develop portfolio prioritization methodologies based on strategic value, patient impact, financial return, risk, regulatory requirements, and organizational capacity.

3. Provide executive leadership with a consolidated view of project status, risks, dependencies, resource requirements, costs, expected benefits, and overall portfolio performance.

4. Identify competing initiatives, critical skill gaps, and resource conflicts or constraints, and facilitate executive-level decisions and resolution.

5. Provide PMO governance for enterprise artificial intelligence and digital transformation initiatives, translating complex project information into concise executive-level decisions and recommendations.

6. Lead the governance and delivery of large-scale implementations, including ERP, EHR optimization, artificial intelligence, infrastructure modernization, cybersecurity, digital transformation, and revenue cycle programs.

7. Monitor business cases, expected return on investment, benefits realization, and total cost of ownership to ensure initiatives deliver measurable outcomes.

8. Develop and manage project portfolio budgets and forecasts, ensuring appropriate financial planning, oversight, and accountability.

9. Determine and oversee the appropriate use of internal resources, consultants, vendors, and implementation partners to support portfolio and project delivery.

10. Meet with representatives of manufacturers, vendors, and professional and business organizations to solicit cooperation, evaluate needs, and resolve problems.

11. Lead and develop PMO managers and related professionals while fostering a culture of accountability, transparency, collaboration, and measurable outcomes.

12. Perform other duties as required.

• Proven Leadership experience and capability in a variety of areas in IS/IT (applications, infrastructure, project management, customer service etc.)
• Experience negotiating and evaluating legal contracts with vendors, contractors and others is required

Education and Experience

1. Education: Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred

2. Licensure: NA

3. Certification: Certification specific to industry (i.e., PMP, CPHIMSS,) is preferred.

4. Years of relevant experience: Minimum of ten (10) years' experience in Information Services/Information Technology field

5. Years of supervisory experience: Minimum of ten (10) years' experience in and management role
